Job Outline

Reporting to the Area Manager, the role is:

  •          To ensure a safe and stimulating environment for children after school.
  • To provide effective leadership, management and administration of the After School Club
  • To lead and oversee the quality of provision and the care and safety of children 
  • To work with the Area Manager to monitor, review and evaluate the provisions so that a live Club development plan is maintained.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Management: Lead and manage a small team of staff, providing guidance, supervision, and support where needed. Ensure rotas and attendance are well-managed, and staffing requirements are met.

Safeguarding & Compliance: Ensure that all safeguarding procedures, statutory requirements, and health & safety guidelines are adhered to. Maintain confidentiality and comply with GDPR regulations.

Planning & Activities: Plan and implement engaging and age-appropriate activities for children, ensuring a stimulating and enriching experience.

Provision & Resources: Oversee the ordering and management of resources, ensuring provisions are well-stocked and aligned with the needs of the children.

Parental Liaison: Establish positive and supportive relationships with parents and carers, offering regular communication and feedback on their child’s progress and well-being.

Staff Development & Training: Undertake staff observations, support staff development, and manage the training needs of the team, ensuring continued professional development through performance reviews and meetings.

Menus & Food Safety: Oversee the development of healthy, balanced menus, ensure that food safety and dietary requirements are met, and that meals are served safely to all children.

Administration & Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, ensuring that attendance, incidents, and accidents are recorded in a timely manner. Use online booking systems and ensure effective administration.

Job Context

The Out of school setting provides care and play for school age children After School and after school provision runs until 17:30pm. The setting is regulated by the Ofsted Early Years framework and subject to the Children’s Act (1989).


Knowledge, Experience and Training      

    • Level 3 qualification in Childcare/Play work or equivalent desirable (or willing to work towards).
    • Previous experience of providing care and activities within a childcare, play or educational environment
    • Food Hygiene Certification (or willingness to undertake training)
    • Management experience
    • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and manage a small team effectively
    • Excellent organisational and time-management skills
    • Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently
    • Positive attitude with excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Experience managing rotas, staff attendance, and resources
    • Ability to plan and implement engaging and safe activities for children
    • Knowledge of statutory safeguarding and health & safety requirements
    • Ability to liaise confidently and professionally with parents and school staff
    • Paediatric First Aid trained (or willingness to undertake training)
    • Experience with administration and record-keeping, including using online systems
