About this Role
As Assistant School Business Manager, you'll support the School Business Manager in delivering efficient, compliant and effective operational management across both sites. Working closely with the School Business Manager, Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team, you'll provide operational leadership for health and safety, facilities, estates, premises compliance and resource management — helping ensure both sites are safe, well-maintained, appropriately resourced and compliant with Independent School Standards. As the school expands to a second site, you'll play a key role in bedding in consistent standards, systems and service delivery from day one.
This role is expected to spend regular time working across both school sites.
Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as operational lead for health and safety, risk assessments, fire safety and emergency planning across both sites
- Maintaining premises compliance documentation (fire, asbestos, water hygiene, electrical, gas safety, contractor records)
- Leading regular site audits, quality checks and "inspection ready" evidence folders
- Coordinating planned and reactive maintenance, and acting as key liaison for contractors and suppliers
- Supporting procurement, budgets, stock control and asset registers
- Managing the whole-school administrative and support function, including statutory returns and the school complaints process
- Supporting safeguarding arrangements through robust premises, contractor and visitor systems
- Deputising for the School Business Manager where appropriate
About you :
- Experience supporting facilities, estates, operations or business administration functions, ideally in a school or education setting
- Experience managing contractors and external suppliers
- Sound knowledge of health and safety procedures, risk assessments and compliance record-keeping
- Advanced IT skills, including confidence with Management Information Systems
- An understanding of special educational needs, neurodiversity and child development
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a calm, practical approach to problem-solving
- A genuine commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
Desirable: a Level 4 School Business Management qualification, IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent Health & Safety qualification), a Facilities Management or Fire Safety qualification, experience of multi-site operations, and knowledge of the Independent School Standards and Ofsted Education Inspection Framework.
