About this Role

As we continue our mission to enrich the educational landscape across our communities, we are seeking passionate individuals to join our local committees.

At Aston Community Education Trust (ACET), we believe that every child deserves the very best start in life. A vital part of making that happen is having a strong, supportive, and diverse Local Governing Body (LGB) at each of our academies. Right now, we are looking for new governors to join the LGB at several of our Academies and we would love for you to get involved.

You don’t need to be a professional, have experience in education, or have worked in governance before. What matters most is that you care about our academies and want to see them thrive. Your perspective as a local resident, parent or carer, your understanding of our community, and your lived experience are incredibly valuable.

As a Governor, you will help shape the direction of the academy, support school leaders, and hold them to account for the decisions they make. You’ll receive extensive training and support, meet other volunteers, and gain experience that could benefit your personal and professional development.

Most importantly, you’ll be helping to make sure that every child in our Academies get the best possible education.

In terms of commitment there are three LGB meetings per academic year, each meeting requires preparatory work including reading reports and materials that are shared with you in advance. There is also the expectation that each governor is assigned a particular role e.g. Safeguarding or Health & Safety for example. Governors orgainse additional visits into the academy to speak with leaders to ensure they have a stronger understanding of their specific area and report back to the rest of the LGB. There are also some statutory training requirements including; a code of conduct, safeguarding and  cyber-security etc.

If you're interested or would like to find out more about what being a governor involves, we’d be happy to have an informal chat or consider your completed application form.

Thank you for considering this important role. With your support, we can make a lasting difference in our school and community.
