About this Role

Central Finance Assistant

Permanent | Term Time Only | 36.5 hours per week | Grade 2

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will support the effective operation of the Trust’s finance function. The role is varied and hands‑on, covering purchase ordering, income, supplier management and support for month‑end and year‑end processes. Your work will help ensure strong financial control and accurate reporting across the Trust.

You will work closely with school‑based staff, suppliers and colleagues in the central team, providing professional and timely finance support.

Key responsibilities

  • Raise and manage purchase orders in line with Trust financial regulations and approval limits
  • Maintain supplier records, including secure verification of bank details
  • Raise sales ledger invoices and follow up outstanding income
  • Support the processing of payments, including BACS and direct debits
  • Assist with month‑end and year‑end tasks, including audit preparation
  • Respond promptly and professionally to finance queries from schools and suppliers
  • Support schools with finance systems and processes, including occasional visits

What we’re looking for

Essential

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths
  • At least two years’ experience in a finance, bookkeeping or financial administration role
  • Strong numeracy and attention to detail
  • Good IT skills, including Excel, and experience using finance systems
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
  • A positive, organised approach and the ability to manage competing deadlines

Desirable

  • AAT qualification (or working towards)
  • Experience working in a school, MAT or public sector finance environment
  • Knowledge of academy trust financial procedures and controls
