About this Role

Director of Estates and Facilities
Location: Trust Head Office (with travel across our academies)

About Astrea Academy Trust
Astrea Academy Trust is a family of 26 academies united by a shared commitment to providing an education that inspires beyond measure. We believe every child deserves a brilliant education, one that equips them with the knowledge, character, and confidence to thrive. Our schools span primary and secondary phases, serving diverse communities across South Yorkshire and Cambridgeshire.

The Opportunity
We are seeking a strategic, commercially astute leader to join our Executive Team as Director of Estates and Facilities. This is a pivotal role with national impact, offering the opportunity to shape and lead the Trust’s multi-site estate portfolio, ensuring our buildings are safe, sustainable, and future-ready.

You will be responsible for the strategic leadership and operational delivery of all estates and facilities functions, including capital programme management, compliance, maintenance, and commercial oversight. You will play a key role in enabling outstanding education through the creation and stewardship of inspiring learning environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Governance: Lead the Trust’s estates strategy, ensuring alignment with educational priorities and national guidance. Provide expert advice to senior leaders and trustees.
  • Capital Projects & Asset Management: Oversee the delivery of capital investment programmes including CIF, SCA, and Basic Need allocations. Manage refurbishment, expansion, and new build projects in line with DfE guidance (e.g. GEMS).
  • Compliance, Safety & Sustainability: Ensure full compliance with statutory regulations, health and safety standards, and sustainability targets. Drive carbon reduction initiatives and environmental best practice.
  • Maintenance, Facilities & Grounds Management: Lead long-term maintenance planning and ensure high-quality facilities management across all sites.
  • Operational Delivery & Commercial Oversight: Manage complex contracts, negotiate Section 106 agreements, and deliver value for money across all estates activity. Lead procurement and supplier relationships.

What We’re Looking For

  • A strategic leader with deep expertise in estates management, ideally within the education sector.
  • Proven experience in capital programme delivery, commercial construction, or quantity surveying.
  • Strong understanding of compliance, health and safety, and sustainability frameworks.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • A passion for creating efficient, inspiring, and future-proof learning environments.

Why Join Astrea?

This is a high-impact role for someone who thrives on strategic planning, operational excellence, and delivering tangible outcomes. You’ll work closely with senior leaders, local authorities, and external partners to maximise funding opportunities and ensure our estate supports outstanding education.
