Hours: Full-time 37 Hours per week; 52 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent 

Working Pattern: Alternate weeks of early and late shifts-

Monday: 07:00am to 15:00pm / 11:00am to 19:00pm

Tuesday: 07:00am to 15:00pm / 11:00am to 19:00pm

Wednesday: 07:00am to 15:00pm / 11:00am to 19:00pm

Thursday: 07:00am to 15:00pm / 11:00am to 19:00pm

Friday: 07:00am to 15:00pm / 11:00am to 19:00pm


About the Role

Birch Wood Special School are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Premises Officer to be a proactive integrated member of the School Staff Team, to be responsible for the supervision of our site and the maintenance and security of our buildings.

Key Responsibilities

  •  To support the management of cleaning staff (or contract if applicable), undertaking general maintenance, repairs and cleaning of the building and grounds.
  • To monitor stock levels of materials, order as necessary and store appropriately to ensure that work can be carried out in accordance with laid down schedules and safety instructions.
  • Complete appropriate records and testing (e.g. maintenance file/ heating/safety checks, order forms) as laid down in trust policies and procedures.
  • To open the grounds and school buildings and ‘unset’ alarms in accordance with laid down schedules and ‘one off’ bookings (lettings), to ensure that lessons and other activities are able to take place at the specified times.
  • To monitor the work of the cleaning staff to ensure the work undertaken by them meets the standards in the contract specification to ensure that the school gets value for money, that the school is a clean, safe, healthy and comfortable place for students, staff and other users to use.

What We’re Looking For

Qualifications:

  • Good level of literacy and numeracy.
  •  NVQ level 2 or equivalent in numeracy and literacy. (Desirable)

Experience:

  • Craft skills, e.g. plumber, electrician and decorating or previous experience in a caretaking role including repairs and maintenance.
  • Working within a school setting.
  • Liaising with external contractors including negotiating prices for small jobs.

Skills & Knowledge:

  •  Ability to alert senior staff to unsafe practices. Understanding of the context in which the schools are working.
  • An ability to undertake risk assessments in relation to premises function.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety issues relevant to the post including legislation and COSHH.
