About this Role

Our 'Bring It!' vision requires us to ensure our pupils are excited by and fully engaged in their learning and school experience more widely. We support them to use their talents to create positive school memories with their friends that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.

St Germans Primary is a small, village school at the heart of the community. The children and staff are proud of their school and its surroundings. We work hard together to ensure that everyone achieves their full potential, both within the classrooms and during our many outdoor adventures. We make sure that everyone feels included and well supported whilst encouraging our children to become confident and independent individuals, making St Germans an incredibly rewarding place to work.

Our school offers a rich variety of activities both inside and outside the classroom, ensuring that every day is engaging and full of opportunities for growth. We are always taking part in new experiences and creating long-lasting memories - there's always something happening and every day is different.

If you are looking for a school which is full of adventure, provides a warm and friendly environment and encourages children to learn and grow, we would love to hear from you.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and caring Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our supportive and talented team.  We are part of a diverse multi-academy trust, looking for professional and ambitious people, with a passion for transforming our pupils’ learning.

We aim to develop a love of learning in our children to last through their lives. We believe passionately in our children having the highest aspirations and are committed to providing a broad and balanced curriculum with exciting opportunities. We want to enable all our children to realise their full potential, their talents and their interests in all areas.

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you play a crucial role in aiding students on their educational journey. Cultivating various strategies to meet each student's unique needs is essential.

As an HLTA, you’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality learning experiences. You’ll work with whole classes, small groups, and individual pupils—sometimes independently, sometimes alongside teachers—supporting a wide range of learning needs. From planning and delivering curriculum activities to promoting positive behaviour and inclusion, your work will directly impact pupil progress and well-being.

Our school is seeking a skilled and adaptable HLTA to provide essential classroom stability during a period of long-term staff sickness. This part-time, fixed-term role is ideal for an educator who thrives on variety, as you will be responsible for covering teachers across all key stages to facilitate their PPA time. The successful candidate will be confident leading full classes independently, quick to build rapport with different age groups, and committed to maintaining our high standards of learning and behaviour across the entire school.

This is a  16.00 hours per week role working  across days to be agreed at interview.  The role will commence in September 2026 to cover a period of absence, initially for 6 months but with the potential for a longer period not exceeding 31.08.2027.

Please note: This role is essential and as such we will be interviewing as suitable applicants apply. We reserve the right to close this role early should vacancies be filled before the closing date.

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience working with children in an educational setting
  • Preferred training or experience in Makaton
  • Be passionate about working with children including SEN children and on a 1:1 basis when required
  • Be flexible, proactive and patient
  • Be able to communicate effectively within a team
  • Work well as part of a caring team.
  • Recognise the varying needs of individual learners and adjust tasks accordingly.
  • Secure high quality relationships with parents, carers and the wider community.
  • Bring creativity and enthusiasm to each and every new day.

In return we offer a great benefits package that consists of:

  • Generous local authority pension scheme
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Employee Assistance programme
  • Flexible working considered
  • Enhanced holiday entitlement, plus further accrual though length of service
  • Corporate gym membership discount
  • Ongoing Training and Development opportunities
