About this Role

This role is based at Oakfield School Vocational Annex, Station Road, Preston, HU12 8UZ

Oakfield School is committed to supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. Through expertise, compassion, and dedication, we ensure every learner is given the opportunity to thrive. Working at Oakfield School is both rewarding and fulfilling, and we recognise the vital role exceptional educators play in shaping our students’ futures.

We are excited to announce the opening of our new Vocational Skills Centre in September 2026. Initially supporting up to 32 pupils, this specialist provision will deliver a tailored curriculum focused on developing vocational skills, preparing students for future pathways, and enabling them to achieve relevant accreditations leading to further education, apprenticeships, or employment. The centre will operate as an extension of Oakfield School under the same DfE registration.

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Joinery Instructor to deliver high-quality, engaging lessons to students in Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. Teaching will take place in small groups, allowing for a personalised and supportive learning environment.

The successful candidate will be willing and enthusiastic about making a difference to our students’ lives and their education and will be someone who works with the students to deliver imaginative and exciting learning opportunities.

We are looking for:

  • Practical experience and skills in one or more construction disciplines
  • Ability to plan and deliver high-quality, hands-on construction lessons (e.g. carpentry, basic plumbing, brickwork, painting and decorating), tailored to individual learning needs
  • GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and English
  • Strong organisational, administrative, and time management skills
  • Patience, empathy, and a commitment to supporting students with individual needs and challenges

 Responsibilities include:

  • Prepare teaching materials, equipment, and resources for student activities and project work, including lesson planning and online materials
  • Maintain high standards of safety, productivity, good order, and hygiene within workshop areas
  • Deliver high-quality learning experiences that develop students’ bricklaying skills
  • Support the development of learners’ skills and knowledge across construction activities
  • Measure learner progress through a range of assessment methods and provide constructive feedback
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date pupil records
  • Distribute equipment, tools, and materials to authorised staff and students as required
  • Ensure all display work is current, of high quality, and celebrates student achievement
  • Contribute to the efficient running of the department by working collaboratively with colleagues

We offer an excellent staff induction programme and support and are committed to high quality continued professional development.

For further details and an informal discussion please contact the school on telephone number 01482 854588.  Visits to the school are most welcome.

The Consortium Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of all children and expects all staff to share this commitment. An appointment will be made subject to satisfactory references and enhanced DBS disclosure, in line with the usual terms and conditions of employment at The Consortium Academy Trust. Any offer of employment to the above post will be subject to receipt of a satisfactory enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service

As part of Oakfield School’s recruitment processes in accordance with statutory guidance: Keeping children safe in education (2025) an online search will be carried out on all shortlisted candidates.
