The Role

We are seeking an inspiring and knowledgeable Head of Computer Science to lead the design and implementation of a rigorous, knowledge‑rich Computer Science curriculum. The ability to teach Maths to a high standard is essential and will form a key part of your teaching allocation as the school grows.

As one of our earliest subject leaders, you will have the unique opportunity to build a department from the ground up—establishing curriculum, pedagogy, resources, enrichment, and a long‑term departmental vision that reflects both your expertise and the school’s academic ambition.

This role requires someone with deep subject knowledge, a commitment to academic excellence, and the ability to mentor colleagues, nurture emerging talent, and build a cohesive, high‑performing team over time.

 

What You Will Do

  • Lead the design of a coherent, knowledge‑rich Computer Science curriculum that secures strong foundational and advanced disciplinary understanding.
  • Model and maintain high expectations for teaching, learning, and assessment across the department.
  • Shape the long‑term vision and identity of Computer Science at our new school.
  • Mentor and support new colleagues as the department expands—helping to develop confident, expert practitioners.
  • Contribute to recruitment, induction, and ongoing professional development of future team members.
  • Develop high‑quality resources and enrichment opportunities, such as coding clubs, competitions, and partnerships with industry or higher education.
  • Teach Maths to a strong standard, supporting the development of a robust and ambitious KS3 Maths provision.

 

What We’re Looking For

  • A passionate computer scientist with excellent subject knowledge across areas such as programming, algorithms, computational thinking, data, hardware, and digital literacy.
  • Someone with experience in designing or delivering a knowledge‑rich curriculum in Computer Science.
  • An individual who understands the importance of powerful disciplinary knowledge—including abstraction, logic, decomposition, and problem‑solving—and can embed this meaningfully into curriculum design.
  • A reflective, research‑informed practitioner with strong pedagogical understanding and the ability to coach, mentor, and develop others.
  • Experience leading or contributing to high‑quality KS3 provision (with KS4/KS5 experience an advantage as the school grows).
  • Strong competence and confidence in teaching Maths, ideally with experience of stretching high‑prior‑attaining pupils.
  • A leader excited by the challenge and opportunity of establishing a new department in a growing school.
