About this Role – 1:1 Teaching Assistant (with Classroom Duties)

This role is designed for a dedicated and adaptable Teaching Assistant who will provide 1:1 support for a named pupil and take on whole‑class duties when that pupil is not in school. The successful candidate will be committed to inclusion, teamwork, and enabling all pupils to thrive.
Teaching and Learning (1:1 Support & Classroom Support)
- Provide high‑quality 1:1 support for a named pupil, tailoring strategies to meet their individual needs, including those relating to SEND.
- When the pupil is absent, take on general classroom TA duties to support teaching and learning for the whole class.
- Promote and facilitate inclusion by encouraging participation of all pupils in learning and extra‑curricular activities.
- Support delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum that enables all pupils to reach their full potential.
- Apply effective behaviour‑management strategies in line with school policy.
- Assist the class teacher in maintaining good order, discipline and a safe, positive learning environment.
- Help organise learning spaces and resources to create a stimulating and secure classroom.
- Observe and record pupil progress, feeding back to the class teacher.
- Supervise a class if the teacher is temporarily unavailable.
- Use IT effectively to enhance learning.
- Undertake any other relevant duties as directed by the class teacher.
Planning
- Contribute to assessment and planning processes by supporting the monitoring, recording and reporting of pupil performance.
- Read and understand lesson plans shared in advance.
- Prepare the classroom and learning materials for lessons.
- Use your skills and areas of expertise to contribute to learning activities and plan your role in them.
- Use allocated time to devise engaging, structured activities that motivate and support learners, particularly the named pupil.
- Plan how to best support inclusion within learning activities.
Working with Staff, Parents/Carers and Professionals
- Communicate effectively with staff, pupils, and—under teacher guidance—with parents and carers.
- Share relevant knowledge and observations with staff and external professionals to support informed decision‑making around provision and intervention.
- Contribute feedback about pupil progress and barriers to learning in meetings with parents/carers as directed by the class teacher.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, colleagues, and specialist professionals, maintaining positive and professional working relationships.
- Ensure all colleagues and professionals are accurately informed about performance, progress or concerns relating to the named pupil.
Health and Safety
- Promote and safeguard the wellbeing of all pupils, following the requirements of Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and the school’s child‑protection policy.
- Support pupils who are upset or have had accidents, ensuring care and reassurance.
Professional Development
- Keep knowledge and skills relevant and up-to-date by reflecting on practice and identifying development opportunities.
- Engage fully with training, qualifications and CPD offered by the school and The Good Shepherd Trust.
- Participate in the school’s appraisal procedures.
