About this Role

Teaching Scholar

King’s Leadership Academy Wavertree. Part of the Great Schools Trust

There are jobs where you support a school. And then there are opportunities where you help shape the lives of young people, every lesson, every interaction, every day.

King’s Leadership Academy Wavertree is a new secondary school in one of Liverpool’s most challenged communities, now moving into its second year. We are seeking an ambitious, compassionate and resilient Teaching Scholar to join our team and support students to access learning, build confidence and thrive as the academy continues to grow.

This is more than a classroom support role. It is a chance to be part of a school built on high expectations, strong relationships and the belief that every child can succeed, regardless of postcode, background or starting point.

At King’s Wavertree, we believe education should be transformative, not transactional. Our culture, routines and curriculum are designed to create the conditions in which children from all backgrounds can flourish. Our ASPIRE values — Achievement, Aspiration, Self-awareness, Professionalism, Integrity, Respect and Endeavour — are not posters on a wall. They are habits we teach, model and reinforce through every interaction.

This is the King’s Way.

The Role

  • As a Teaching Scholar, you will work closely with teaching staff, senior leaders and year teams to provide high-quality academic, pastoral and behavioural support for students.
  • You will support individuals and small groups, help deliver targeted interventions and assist with lesson activities so that pupils can access learning effectively. You will also contribute to a purposeful, inclusive and well-ordered learning environment both inside and beyond the classroom.
  • This role will involve supporting pupils with additional needs, contributing to Individual Education Plans and behaviour plans, monitoring progress and helping students develop independence, self-esteem and positive attitudes to learning.
  • You will notice when a student is struggling. You will encourage, guide and reset where needed. You will be one of the adults who helps pupils believe they can rise.
  • No cape required. Just consistency, care and the sort of calm presence that makes a school better.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who believes deeply in young people and understands that support is not about doing the work for pupils. It is about helping them access it, stick with it and grow through it.

You will have experience of working with children or young people in a secondary school or comparable setting. You will be able to build positive relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues and bring strong communication, organisation and ICT skills.

You will be professional, resilient and committed to inclusion. You will understand that every child deserves both compassion and high expectations.

We are particularly interested in people who:

          • Build respectful, trusting relationships with students, families and staff
          • Support pupils with additional needs, including SEND and barriers to learning
          • Believe every student should access a rich, ambitious curriculum
          • Can support learning, behaviour and personal development with warmth and consistency
          • Remain calm, professional and positive when things are difficult
          • Are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
          • Want to grow professionally within a values-driven Trust
          • Believe character, leadership and academic excellence belong together

          Why Join Us?

You will be joining a Trust that is ambitious for children and serious about supporting staff. We believe adults flourish when they are trusted, developed and valued.

At King’s Wavertree, staff benefit from a collaborative culture, weekly development opportunities and leadership that genuinely listens. The Trust also provides access to innovative systems, including CredimusAI, designed to save time and reduce workload. The recruitment pack describes the role as term-time only, 37 hours per week, with an actual salary of £20,924–£21,252 and a September 2026 start date.
