About this Role

At Stanhope Primary School, we are on an exciting transformational journey to secure rapid improvement and create a sustainable love of learning for every child. We are delighted to be recruiting a Deputy Headteacher who will play a pivotal role in shaping the next chapter of our school’s development. This is an exceptional opportunity for a strong, experienced teacher ready to make a strategic impact and contribute to significant school improvement.

As a proud member of the Flying High Partnership, we are part of a thriving family of 38 primary schools across Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottingham City, and Nottinghamshire. Our shared vision—to be unique, exceptional, and sustainable—drives our commitment to collaboration, high standards, and continuous professional growth.

If you are an aspiring school leader with a passion for raising standards, leading exceptional teaching, and inspiring children through an ambitious curriculum, we would love to hear from you.

About Stanhope Primary School

Stanhope is a vibrant and diverse school with fantastic pupils, extensive grounds including woodland areas, class cooking facilities, and excellent access to technology—with 1:2:1 iPads in Years 4, 5 and 6.

Our school is currently judged as Requires Improvement by Ofsted, and we are focused on further developing high-quality teaching and learning to ensure rapid progress. Our vision is:

“Creating a love of learning for LIFE!”

This sits alongside The Stanhope Way:

Be Kind, Be Safe, Be Your Best Self

We are deeply committed to pupil wellbeing, underpinned by our One Life programme, and to creating a consistent, language‑rich curriculum that inspires, challenges, and motivates every child.

Our recently appointed Headteacher brings fresh ambition and drive, and you will join us at a unique time where your leadership will have genuine influence on the direction and success of the school.

About the Role

  • Leading on standards, assessment, curriculum, teaching and learning
  • Acting as a trusted partner and critical friend to the Headteacher
  • Supporting and developing staff across the school
  • Using whole‑school evaluation to inform strategy and ensure nothing is left to chance
  • Contributing to a culture where research, collaboration, and reflective practice flourish

The role includes dedicated leadership time alongside a teaching commitment, structured to support both the needs of the school and your ongoing leadership growth.

Experience in Early Reading and/or leading Early Years is desirable.

We Can Offer You:

  • A welcoming, supportive team committed to professional dialogue and improving practice
  • A school environment with exceptional facilities and opportunities for outdoor learning
  • A people‑centred trust, built on principles of adaptability, wellbeing, recognition, voice, development, inclusivity, and collaboration
  • A clear leadership development pathway, including access to the full suite of NPQs delivered by our Teaching School Hub
  • High‑quality CPL at every career stage, including preparation for future headship
  • Strategic leadership responsibility across the curriculum, teaching and learning, and assessment
  • Opportunities for career progression across the Flying High Partnership
  • A thoughtful balance of teaching responsibility and leadership release time
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme, including counselling, financial and legal support
  • A fantastic workplace where magic happens every day for children and staff

We Are Looking For Someone Who:

  • Is a consistently strong classroom practitioner with high expectations
  • Has experience of whole‑school leadership and school improvement with clear impact
  • Understands whole‑school evaluation and uses it to drive strategy
  • Delights in working with children and puts their wellbeing and success at the heart of all decisions
  • Embraces creativity and has a positive, solution-focused outlook
  • Is fascinated by the learning process and seeks new research and ideas
  • Will take informed risks and innovate to help every child thrive
  • Is committed to continually developing their practice
  • Inspires, supports, and motivates staff and children
  • Has great ideas and is excited to share them
  • Values every member of our school community
  • Has high aspirations for all pupils
  • Brings energy, enthusiasm, and a passion for inclusive, values‑led education
  • Will go the extra mile to ensure every child receives an exceptional offer
