About this Role

The Academy is looking for an outstanding SEND Instructor, ideally with experience of SLD, ASC, PMLD or Post-16, who is aspirational, enthusiastic, creative, caring and committed to the delivery of high-quality education within our academy. The successful candidate will provide excellent teaching and learning, alongside securing the welfare and personal development of our young people. The post is covered by Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) and therefore the ability to speak fluent spoken English is an essential requirement for this role.

There may also be opportunities for the successful candidate to train to become a qualified teacher through our Trust’s apprenticeship programme.

Purpose of the role:

To contribute to outstanding teaching and learning outcomes by delivering learner-centred, inclusive, and adaptive teaching that meets the diverse needs of students within the academy.

The role is focused on creating a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment where each learner is supported to achieve their individual goals. This includes ongoing observation and assessment to inform planning, carefully monitoring learners’ progress, engagement, attendance, and wellbeing, and responding proactively to emerging needs.

The instructor provides consistent, meaningful feedback to learners and works collaboratively with colleagues, families, and support staff to ensure personalised support strategies are in place. Through reflective practice and continuous review of progress, the role aims to promote independence, confidence, and positive outcomes for every learner.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • To plan, develop and deliver lessons as directed by the SLT of the Academy
  • To observe, assess and verify learner’s performance (to include marking)
  • To look after a class, actively supervising individual and group learning
  • To provide feedback on progress to learners
  • To keep accurate records; tracking and monitoring learner’s progress
  • To sign off the appropriate awards, as necessary, when all requirements are met
  • To establish, build and grow effective relationships across the Academy; working closely with external agencies and parents
  • To contribute to learner plans, ensuring that appropriate support is in place
  • To conduct related Health and safety checks and risk assessments
  • To support the curriculum development process
  • Commit to, promote and operate in accordance with the Academy’s values and goals including but not limited to: safeguarding; health and safety; equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Commit to and participate in activities as required including but not limited to: open evenings; parents evenings; external trips
  • To act as cover supervisor where required

Person specification and experience:

(Specification and experience may vary depending on subject thought or area of responsibility)

  •  Level 3 qualification equivalent or above
  • GCSE (or equivalent qualification) at grade C/4 in both Maths and English
  • Occupational competence; Significant experience, knowledge and understanding of the specialist subject area
  • A collaborative working style across areas of responsibility
  • Good  interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to a diverse range of people
  • Ability to work independently, to plan and organise own workload effectively
  • Organised, team player with the ability to work to deadlines
  • IT literate with evidence of effective application
  • An ability to identify opportunities to improve the learner’s experience
  • An understanding of Health and Safety legislation as it applies to the role
  • An excellent understanding of Safeguarding legislation

Requirement:

You will need to have an ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence through the medium of English.
