We are looking for someone who will inspire and motivate our students; an excellent classroom practitioner who is able to lead by example as well as mentor other staff. This post would suit someone looking to broaden their experience in a successful and ambitious school, or an experienced practitioner who wished to focus more of their time on teaching rather than on managerial tasks.
The successful candidate
will be granted
additional non-contact time as a part of this role. This
is partly because the successful candidate will be responsible for the
development of and continued success of our ICT and Computing curriculum. The successful candidate will also be
required to work with others
to train teaching
staff on the best practice in the use of ICT within their teaching.
IT, Computing and Mathematics are the subject areas that
make up the Compute Faculty at Anthony Gell School. The team consists of eight
teachers and these include the Director of Faculty, an Assistant Director of
Faculty, a Learning Mentor and two IT technicians. There is an excellent range
of experience and expertise within the staff team, allowing the faculty to be a
forward thinking, dynamic and supportive community in which to work.
Within the IT and Computing area of the faculty, we have
a Network Manager, a Network Assistant and an IT Technician. These colleagues help support the teaching and learning within the Faculty and across the school.
They also provide support for the wider school; ensuring effective ICT
provision, facilitating appropriate training, and assisting with strategic
future planning.
In terms of facilities, the IT department boasts two
main computing suites and these are primarily used for all IT and Computing
lessons in Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. Two smaller classrooms, ideal
for KS5 Learning, seminars or smaller class
groups are also available with the
IT/computing suite of rooms. Teaching and learning is supported via a range of
resources which include PCs, sets of laptops, VR headsets, Micro:bits and robots. The school has several
other suites of computers in other areas of the school, including several
classrooms within other faculties.
In Key Stage 3, students are taught in mixed ability
groups in computing. The computing curriculum boasts a rich diet that includes
programming, internet safety, gaming and databases. During this Key Stage, we expect students to continue to improve their IT skills as
well as keeping up-to-date with the ever changing digital
world around them. At Key Stages 4 and 5, we offer IT and Computer Science
both at Level 2 and Level 3. The latter continues to be an increasingly popular
option with both boys and girls.
As a Faculty it is our intent to make sure that students
are able to explore, investigate and enjoy our three subject areas. In addition
to this, our curriculum continues to improve and encourages our learners to
understand the importance of IT, Computing and Maths and the outstanding
opportunities that qualifications in these subjects will give them.
