About this Role

HEAD OF GEOGRAPHY
Hemel Hempstead School

MPS/UPS + Fringe

TLR2b allowance
Full time/Permanent

Start: September 2026

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding teacher to the position of Head of Geography. The successful candidate will join our flourishing Humanities Faculty and will lead an ambitious team. The ability to teach the subject at Key Stage 3 and 4 is essential. Previous experience of teaching A Level is an advantage.  The Department follows the AQA specifications at GCSE and A Level.

We aim to provide a curriculum that develops knowledge and skills required to understand the human and physical processes that have shaped the world and a sense of shared responsibility for it. Contemporary geographical issues are woven into the curriculum. Trips include residential fieldwork courses. The strength of our department is demonstrated in our excellent student outcomes year-on-year.

The Hemel Hempstead School is a popular and oversubscribed school on a beautiful site in the Boxmoor area. The school is close to local and national rail, bus and road links to London. We are an expanding school, with 217 students in each year group and over 250 students in the Sixth Form. Our facilities are excellent with world-class sporting facilities, a brand-new music, languages and science centre and plans for further improvements across the site. In September 2025 we opened a brand-new school building.

Diversity: Scholars’ Education Trust is fully committed to the principles of equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion.  We want to attract and retain the very best staff in all areas of the trust, ensuring our staff body reflects the diversity of our students and local community.

Further details and an application form are available from HR at hr@scholarseducationtrust.co.uk. CVs will not be accepted.

Closing date: 6 February 2026, 9am

Interview date: TBC

We reserve the right to make an appointment before the closing date, so early applications are encouraged.

Scholars’ Education Trust is an equal opportunities employer. The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Declaration of criminal offences

The trust is required to give you the opportunity to voluntarily declare convictions, cautions, reprimands or final warnings that are not ‘protected’ as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2013 and 2020). You will be provided with a criminal self-declaration form by the school if you are shortlisted for the post. All posts in schools are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. If you are appointed you will be required to have an up to date Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Certificate. The existence of a criminal background does not automatically mean that you cannot be appointed but it may do so.
