We are seeking an inspiring and skilled violin teacher to join the music department at Lister, a thriving co-educational secondary school in Newham, East London. This position offers a fantastic opportunity to work with enthusiastic young learners and inspire the next generation of musicians. You will teach violin in classroom lessons alongside the classroom teacher, and you will also teach breakout violin groups from these lessons.
There will be opportunities to be involved with extracurricular activities across the department, and to contribute to our concerts and performance events. An ability/willingness to teach a range of musical styles will be an advantage.
We have a busy and vibrant music department, with all students in Y7 and Y8 learning an orchestral instrument in their classroom music lessons. We are equipped with 3 dedicated music classrooms, and a large number of smaller studios and practice rooms for small group and individual lessons. We run a busy extracurricular programme with choir, orchestra, a samba group and a range of student-led bands and ensembles. We regularly arrange formal and informal performances throughout the year, and include our Visiting Music Teachers where possible.
The candidate will need to be registered self-employed. Payment will be by invoice at the end of each month or half term. The hours on offer are currently 4 - this will remain at least the same or possibly more until the end of the academic year in July 2026 (end of fixed term).
