About this Role

We are seeking a compassionate, resilient and highly motivated Learning Mentor to join our nurturing primary school community. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in children’s lives by supporting their emotional wellbeing, engagement with learning, and personal development.

You will work closely with pupils who may be experiencing social, emotional or behavioural barriers to learning, helping them develop the confidence, skills and strategies they need to thrive both in and out of the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

·  Provide 1:1 and small-group mentoring for pupils with social, emotional or behavioural needs

·  Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to support emotional regulation and self-esteem

·  Work alongside teachers to remove barriers to learning and improve classroom engagement

·  Develop and deliver targeted interventions (e.g. emotional literacy, social skills, resilience)

·  Support pupils during challenging parts of the school day (transitions, playtimes, lunchtimes)

·  Liaise with parents/carers to promote consistent support between home and school

·  Collaborate with the SENCO, Family Support Worker, safeguarding team and external professionals where required

·  Monitor progress and maintain clear, accurate records of interventions and outcomes

·  Contribute to a safe, inclusive and supportive school environment

We are looking for someone who:

·  Has experience working with primary-aged children in a school

·  Understands social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs in children

·  Is calm, patient and able to respond positively to challenging behaviour

·  Builds strong relationships based on trust, respect and consistency

·  Has excellent communication and listening skills

·  Can work independently as well as part of a team

·  Is organised and confident in keeping records and tracking progress

·  Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

Desirable:

·  Training in ELSA, Thrive, nurture approaches or similar

·  Experience supporting children with SEND

·  Knowledge of trauma-informed practice

What We Offer

·  A family atmosphere, working closely with our families and the wider community

·  Motivated and well-behaved children who are keen to learn

·  A creative and supportive staff team, who are committed to ensuring every child reaches their true potential

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed by arrangement.  Please contact the School Office to make an appointment: Headteacher@st-josephs-lancaster.lancs.sch.uk
