About this Role

Make a difference where it matters most.

We are seeking an inspiring and proactive Head of Year to join our pastoral team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers, thrive academically and personally to achieve their very best in school.

As Head of Year, you will play a key role in supporting students, families and colleagues, ensuring that every child receives the care and challenge they need to succeed. You will lead day-to-day pastoral support for an allocated year group, with a strong focus on behaviour, attendance, punctuality, achievement and progress.

We are looking for someone who can build positive relationships quickly, communicate with confidence and sensitivity, and work effectively with families, staff and external agencies. You will be proactive in identifying need, planning interventions, monitoring impact and ensuring that students are supported through timely, effective pastoral care.

About the role

You will:

  • Provide high-quality pastoral support and early intervention for students and families.
  • Promote excellent attendance, behaviour and positive attitudes to learning.
  • Use data and school systems to track students, identify concerns and measure the impact of interventions.
  • Work closely with tutors, senior leaders, parents, carers and external agencies.
  • Support safeguarding and child protection processes with professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure effective communication with all stakeholders.
  • Help create a consistent, supportive and ambitious pastoral culture across the school.

About you

The successful candidate will be a calm, resilient and motivated professional who is committed to improving outcomes for young people. You will have experience of working with children and young people, supporting them to overcome barriers to learning, personal development or wellbeing. You will also be confident assessing individual needs, developing action plans and working collaboratively as part of a team.

You will bring:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A non-judgemental, supportive and child-centred approach.
  • Excellent organisation and the ability to prioritise effectively.
  • An understanding of safeguarding, inclusion, confidentiality and data protection.
  • Creativity, initiative and analytical thinking when solving problems.

We offer a supportive working environment within a brilliant team, ample opportunities for personal career development, a comprehensive staff wellbeing service including on-line GP access and free gym facilities on site.

If you have any questions, or would like an informal discussion about the role, please contact our Assistant Head, Mr John Kinsella on 01900 873290 or at office@sjchs.uk.  Mr Kinsella would be delighted to take you on a tour of the school and give you the opportunity to meet the department and answer any questions you may have.

Applications will be assessed as they are submitted and we reserve the right to invite candidates for interview prior to the closing date and to make an appointment before this date. Therefore, we encourage interested applicants to apply as soon as possible.
