St Joseph’s Catholic Infant School and St Edward’s Catholic Junior School are part of the St Thomas Catholic Academies Trust. We are looking to appoint a Teaching Assistant, to work within our schools with children aged 4-11, supporting children 1:1 with a range of abilities in literacy and numeracy. This is a part time, fixed term post for St Edward’s Catholic Junior School in the first instance. This will be until 31.08.2026.

Are you flexible and ambitious for your career? If yes this could be the role for you.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking, trustworthy, inspirational, adaptable and energetic person to join our schools.

The successful applicant will have experience of working with children or be keen to explore a career within teaching.

When working with our children you will have the sensitivity to know when to intervene, when to encourage, and when to allow a child to work independently.

We have a proven, successful track record of supporting the ongoing development of staff and love working with people who bring enthusiasm and new ideas.

The successful candidate will be required to fully support our Catholic ethos.

The candidate will have:

·         Excellent interpersonal skills, being able to communicate effectively with pupils, staff, parents and other professionals.

·         Ability to work on their own initiative and as part of a team.

·         Flexibility and adaptability.

·         A willingness to learn and develop existing skills.

·         A sense of humour.

·         Willingness to ‘go the extra mile’.

St Joseph’s and St Edward’s Schools will provide:

·         Excellent professional development.

·         A strong and supportive team of colleagues.

·         A caring Catholic School ethos.

·         Schools that are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people with the expectation that all staff share this commitment and our safeguarding policy is reflected in our recruitment process.

·         Excellent cakes

·         Cuddles with our School Dog, Edie

This is a happy and ambitious school. Pupils and staff have warm, supportive, and positive relationships. Pupils trust adults in the school and know that they want the best for them. Pupils rise to the high expectations that adults have for how well they achieve and behave. Pupils take responsibility for their own learning. They also act as thoughtful and kind citizens by encouraging and supporting their peers in lessons.

The school is fully inclusive. Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are well supported by both staff and their peers. Pupils appreciate that everyone is different. As one pupil said, ‘Some children may not learn or see the world the same way.’ This compassion comes through in pupils’ supportive behaviour and attitudes.

(St Edward’s Ofsted January 2025)

We are committed to the protection and safeguarding of our pupils and the successful candidate will have to undertake an enhanced DBS check.
