About this Role

The successful candidate must have a firm but fair approach to working with children and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  It is important that you have the ability to work as part of a team and build positive relationships with the children, staff and parents.

You will work closely with our teachers to support children in their learning, helping to create a positive, safe and inclusive environment where every child can thrive and reach their full potential. The role is varied and rewarding, including supporting pupils one-to-one, working with small groups, preparing learning resources, providing lunchtime cover and contributing to the wider life of the school.

This position will involve working closely with pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).  You will support children both individually and in small groups, helping to meet their specific learning and emotional needs. The role will also include setting up and resourcing small group activities for SEND pupils, working with other Educational Teaching Assistants (ETAs) to ensure high-quality provision and support.

We are therefore looking for someone who:

  • Has experience of working with SEND pupils
  • Has a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
  • Is patient, nurturing and adaptable in their approach
  • Builds positive relationships with pupils, staff and families
  • Works well as part of a team and shows initiative
  • Is committed to safeguarding and the well being of every child.

 In return, we offer:

  • A caring and supportive staff team who work closely together
  • A strong sense of community where everyone is valued
  • Opportunities for professional development and training.

At St Patrick’s Catholic Primary Academy, we pride ourselves on our inclusive ethos and the strong relationships we build with our children and families. The successful candidate will actively support the Mission Statement and the Ethos of our Catholic Primary School.

We strongly recommend that you visit our school before applying. You can arrange this by contacting Helen Fox (Business Manager) on 01484 300800 to arrange a suitable time. Please note school is closed for the Spring Bank holiday and re-opens on Monday 08 June 2026. Visits can be arranged for Tuesday to Friday of this week.

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our children. This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check (a conviction may not exclude candidates from appointment but will be considered as part of the recruitment process), satisfactory references and all relevant pre-employment checks.  All shortlisted candidates will be subject to online searches as part of due diligence checks and in accordance with KCSIE 2025 and are required to complete a self-declaration form prior to interview.
