The Academy Council of St Mary’s Catholic Primary Academy wish to appoint a caring, reliable, calm, positive and skilled person to support the teaching of the curriculum through high quality assistance to our pupils within the classroom setting. In this role, you will use a creative and impactful approach, follow the specific direction of the class teacher and work effectively to improve learning for pupils, whilst enhancing their educational progress, personal experience and character development.
St Mary’s is a wonderful Catholic school enjoying an excellent reputation locally, where we have created a happy, successful and well-resourced learning community. Our children are very well behaved and highly motivated and we love spending our days with them!
We are proud to be serving a richly diverse and inclusive community, inspired by our strong Catholic ethos and tradition which stretches back over 175 years. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual wanting to grow their skills, expand their experience and make a positive difference to the lives of children at our school.
We need you to be able to:
• To work with individual or groups of pupils with additional needs to support learning as directed by the teacher including Forest School and off site provision and intervention programmes as appropriate.
• To support working relationships with pupils, acting as role model and setting high expectations.
• To meet the personal and physical needs of pupils whilst encouraging their independence.
• To support pupils to meet the outcomes outlined on the pupil’s Support Me to Learn plan or EHCP.
• To plan and deliver highly adapted lessons which meet the needs of children from a range of year groups who have additional needs.
• To monitor and communicate the progress of individual children and identify gaps in learning, planning suitable interventions to address these.
• To effectively manage challenging behaviours, particularly those prevalent in children with SEMH needs, using a range of bespoke strategies where needed.
• To develop a range of learning support materials and resources (adapting where appropriate for individual pupil needs) e.g. English and Maths.
• To work with individuals or groups of pupils in the use of IT to support learning.
• To monitor and give feedback on the progress of the pupils in regard to the objectives in their plan.
The successful candidate will be required to support the Catholic ethos and to make a contribution to the extended life of the school where possible. Any additional skills that can be offered should be mentioned in the application process.
