About this Role

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people?
Do you thrive in a supportive, forward-thinking school where every child is valued and included?
Edgar Wood Academy is seeking a committed, compassionate and skilled Teaching Assistant to join our growing team.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in supporting students with a range of SEND needs, including ASD, ADHD and SEMH, helping them to overcome barriers to learning, grow in confidence and achieve their potential. You will work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and our SENCo to deliver high-quality support both in and out of the classroom.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with children with SEND or additional needs
  • Is passionate about supporting students aged 11–16
  • Can build positive, trusting relationships with young people and families
  • Uses initiative, creativity and empathy to help students thrive
  • Has knowledge of the EHCP process or is eager to learn
  • Can use effective behaviour strategies, including de-escalation approaches
  • Is flexible, resilient and committed to continuous professional development

This role involves supporting learning across the school, planning and leading small-group interventions, promoting independence, and contributing to the wider pastoral and safeguarding culture. You will also support with physical/practical activities and occasionally move resources as part of the role.

Edgar Wood Academy is part of the Altus Education Partnership, committed to providing outstanding learning experiences for every student. We are proud of our inclusive ethos and high expectations for all.

Please note:
All appointments are subject to an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references, medical clearance, and a six-month probationary period.

If you are determined to help young people succeed and you’re ready to bring energy, commitment and positivity to a growing school, we’d love to hear from you.

What We Offer

In return, we provide:

  • A supportive, friendly and collaborative working environment.
  • You’ll receive a full induction and onthejob training to help you settle quickly and feel confident.
  • The chance to be part of a growing, modern academy with excellent facilities.
  • Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme.
  • Employee Benefits Programme.
  • Cycle to Work Salary Sacrifice Scheme.
  • Free Employee Assistance Programme (wellbeing, counselling and support).
