About this Role

Teacher of  Humanities (RE)/RE ECT (1 year contract, Full Time)

ECT/MPS/UPS (Fringe) (£34,398 - £52,490)

Required from September 2026

We seek applications from those of the Catholic faith, all faiths and of no faith but who are supportive of our Christian values and ethos.

We welcome applications from both experienced Religious Education specialists and teachers from other subject disciplines, particularly but not exclusively within the humanities. We are seeking individuals with a strong interest in Religious Education, a commitment to the distinctive mission of Catholic education, and the knowledge, skills, and values required to develop into successful RE teachers. Applicants should be willing and able to meet the requirements of teaching Religious Education within a Catholic school, where the subject plays a central role in the curriculum and the life of the school.
Are you ready to begin your journey as a Teacher of Religious Education in our exceptional Catholic school, whether as an RE specialist or as someone looking to bring your knowledge, skills, and passion from another discipline into this vital subject?

Our school offers an outstanding environment in which to launch your teaching career. In October 2024, Ofsted judged the school Outstanding for Quality of Education and Behaviour and Attitudes. This was followed by our Section 48 inspection in January 2025, which found the school Good in all areas, with an Outstanding judgement for the quality of provision for the Catholic life and mission of the school. This is a truly distinctive setting in which to begin your career in Religious Education.

In line with the mission of all Catholic schools, Religious Education lies at the heart of our curriculum. All students in Years 7–11 dedicate 10% of their curriculum time to RE, and every student study GCSE Religious Studies. At A Level, Religious Studies is a thriving and popular subject, with many students progressing to further study in areas such as Theology, Philosophy, and Ethics.

Our shared values of Love, Respect, and Flourish underpin everything we do. You will join a vibrant community of talented, committed, and innovative staff, supported by engaged parents and motivated, well-behaved students who are eager to learn and to succeed.

As an Early Career Teacher, you will benefit from a comprehensive induction programme designed to support your professional development and ensure you thrive from the very start of your career. As Ofsted noted, “It is a very special community to be a part of.” We wholeheartedly agree—and we invite you to imagine yourself as a valued member of our school community.

We are proud of our strong track record in developing Early Career Teachers, with established support systems and a clear commitment to staff wellbeing and manageable workload. As Ofsted recognised, “The energy, determination and tenacity of school leaders and the Trust are bringing about effective and sustained improvements for pupils.”

What we can offer:

  • A thriving and supportive RE department.
  • Enthusiastic, respectful, and motivated students.
  • A school community built on strong relationships and shared values.
  • Exceptional behaviour standards that allow teachers to focus on high-quality teaching.
  • Outstanding leadership, pastoral care, and professional development.

St Mary’s Catholic School is a founding member of the St Francis of Assisi Catholic Academy Trust, established in September 2021. This post represents an ideal opportunity for an ambitious candidate to assume the leadership of a core subject area across all key stages.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. A DBS disclosure is required for all successful applicants. St Mary’s is committed to the equality of opportunity for all applicants, and we reserve the right to interview on a rolling basis, therefore an early application is advisable.
