About this Role

Second in English (Full Time)

ECT/MPS/UPS (Fringe) £33,075- £50,471 + TLR2b £5,645

Required from 1 September 2025

We seek applications from those of the Catholic faith, all faiths and of no faith but who are supportive of our Christian values and ethos.

Required for September 2025, a well-qualified and dynamic Second in English to join and help lead a progressive, effective and high-achieving English department in this high performing and outstanding school.

Are you an enthusiastic and inspiring English teacher looking to develop your career in a true community with “Excellence” at its heart? We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic teacher of English to work within our vibrant and highly motivated English department.

English is popular at all Key Stages at St Mary’s including A-Level, and many students go on to study English or related subjects at University, including Russell Group and Oxbridge. The successful candidate would be expected to teach across the full age and ability range, which will include A Level.

As our recent (November 2024) OFSTED demonstrates, “‘The quality of education pupils receive is exceptional…The culture of positive behaviour at St Mary’s is remarkable…’ and ‘St Mary’s is a very special community to be a part of’. The Quality of Education and Behaviour & Attitudes are graded outstanding.

Working at St. Mary’s is an extraordinary opportunity. We take our shared values of Love-Respect-Flourish to the heart of our ethos for pupils and staff. You will be part of a school which has a tremendously talented, committed, creative, and innovative staff; parents who are supportive; and students who are eager to learn, well behaved and motivated to succeed. As our recent (November 2024) OFSTED noted, “The energy, determination and tenacity of school leaders and the Trust are bringing about effective and sustained improvements for pupils”.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. A DBS disclosure is required for all successful applicants. St Mary’s is committed to the equality of opportunity for all applicants, and we reserve the right to interview on a rolling basis, therefore an early application is advisable.

Apply in writing using MyNewTerm or the forms available on our website www.stmarys.net: (Teacher Application Form, Consent to Obtain References Form, Rehabilitation of Offenders Form & Recruitment Monitoring Form). Applicants are reminded that they should read the Notes to Applicants before completing an application.

Please contact Deirdre McHugh, Headteacher d.mchugh@stmarys.net or Recruitment@stmarys.net to submit an application or for more information.

Interviews: St Mary’s is committed to the equality of opportunity for all applicants, and we reserve the right to interview on a rolling basis, and close the application deadline early, therefore an early application is advisable.
