Are you a foodie with a passion for teaching? We need an inspiring Catering Tutor to take the lead in our college kitchen and café. This isn’t just about cooking—it’s about connecting students with the world of work, boosting confidence and serving up real personal and vocational skills.

Forest Moor School is a Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) school based at Menwith Hill, just outside of Harrogate. It is a Key Stage 2 – 4 provision with around 96 students on role in beautiful surroundings.  Our aim is to provide the best possible care and education that we can for children and young people with SEMH needs. Unconditional Positive Regard is at the centre of what we do and we are an academy that is welcoming, caring, safe, warm and believes that all its pupils can be supported and empowered to succeed.

As a Catering Tutor your primary focus will be to lead the coordination, development and delivery of vocational activities, campaigns, events and programmes within our college kitchen and cafe.  You will deliver a well planned catering curriculum that helps students develop personal and vocational skills, connecting them directly with the world of work. You will also play a key role in mentoring support staff and establishing networks with external organisations to ensure safe, equitable, and effective provision.

What you will cook up!

  • Curriculum Delivery: Develop and deliver safe, effective and enjoyable catering training programmes

  • Staff Supervision: Provide effective supervision, mentoring and support to support staff, coaches and volunteers, assisting in identifying their training needs.

  • Student Progress: Track and evidence student progress and personal development over time, ensuring pupils achieve relevant certification and accreditation.

  • Administration & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of participation and performance and prepare clear progress reports.

  • Financial & Funding Awareness: Monitor expenditure and income within your area and identify potential external funding streams.

  • Promotion & Inclusion: Assist with marketing and promotional plans to ensure opportunities are equitably accessed by traditionally under-represented or vulnerable groups.

Ingredients required:

  • Experience: Proven experience working within a professional kitchen, café or similar catering environment.

  • Training & Mentorship: Experience planning and delivering catering training programmes, alongside supervising or mentoring a group of individuals.

  • Qualifications: A relevant vocational qualification in Catering/Hospitality (e.g., NVQ Level 3 or equivalent) and a Food Hygiene/Food Safety Certification.

  • Kitchen Safety: Strong working knowledge of food safety standards, risk management, HACCP principles and COSHH regulations.

  • Core Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, strong organisational capabilities, a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion and a genuine passion for engaging pupils in hands-on learning.
