About this Role

At Highfields Spencer Academy, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of the barriers they may face. We are looking for a committed, caring and resilient Behaviour Mentor to join our pastoral team and support children to develop positive behaviours, regulate their emotions and engage successfully in school life.

This is a rewarding role for someone who is passionate about making a difference and helping children overcome social, emotional and behavioural barriers to learning.

As a valued member of our team, you will work closely with pupils, staff, families and external agencies to ensure that children feel safe, supported and ready to learn. The role also requires flexibility and a willingness to support the wider school community, including providing classroom cover when required.

What will the role involve?

The successful candidate will:

  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils across the school.
  • Support children who require additional help with behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement in learning.
  • Work alongside teachers and leaders to implement strategies that support positive behaviour and inclusion.
  • Provide targeted mentoring and intervention programmes for individual pupils and small groups.
  • Support children during lessons, transitions, playtimes and lunchtimes.
  • Help pupils develop resilience, confidence, independence and self-regulation skills.
  • Contribute to behaviour monitoring and record keeping.
  • Work collaboratively with families to support positive outcomes for children.
  • Liaise with external agencies and professionals where appropriate.
  • Support the implementation of behaviour plans and individual support programmes.
  • Provide short-term classroom supervision and cover when required, ensuring a calm, purposeful environment for learning.
  • Promote and model the school's RISE values of Respect, Inspire, Success and Empathy at all times.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking someone who:

  • Has experience working with children or young people.
  • Understands the importance of positive relationships in supporting behaviour and wellbeing.
  • Can remain calm, patient and professional when dealing with challenging situations.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Is confident supporting children with social, emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Is able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Has high expectations of behaviour and conduct.
  • Is flexible, proactive and solution-focused.
  • Shares our commitment to inclusion and ensuring every child can succeed.

Why work at Highfields Spencer Academy?

At Highfields Spencer Academy, relationships are at the heart of everything we do. We are a welcoming, ambitious and inclusive school where staff work together to ensure every child can thrive.

We can offer:

  • A friendly and supportive staff team.
  • Children who are enthusiastic and eager to learn.
  • A strong commitment to staff wellbeing.
  • High-quality professional development opportunities.
  • The opportunity to make a genuine difference to children's lives every day.
  • A school community built around our RISE values.

If you are passionate about supporting children to achieve success and helping them overcome barriers to learning, we would love to hear from you.

Early application is strongly encouraged as we reserve the right to interview and close the advert ahead of the closing date.
