About this Role

About this Role

Are you enthusiastic, caring, and full of energy? Do you love working with children and creating fun, meaningful experiences? This is also ideal, if you are a student interested in work outside of college/university hours, you currently work in childcare but are looking for additional hours or a fresh challenge. If so, we’d love to hear from you!

We are looking for a dedicated Playworker to join our friendly primary school team, supporting our After School Club. You’ll play an important role in creating a safe, welcoming and stimulating environment where children can relax, play, and thrive after the school day.

This is a flexible, casual position, ideal for someone who enjoys variety in their work. You will primarily provide cover for staff absences, making this a great opportunity for those looking for adaptable hours while still being part of a supportive and caring school community.

Whether you’re leading creative activities, encouraging outdoor play, or simply offering a listening ear, your enthusiasm and warmth will make a real difference to our children’s day.

Flexible Hours
Breakfast Club: 7.30am to 8.45am
Afterschool Club: 3.00pm to 5.30pm
The role involves:

The provision of a happy and safe environment for all staff and pupils. Fully supported by our dedicated school support team, you will assist with the day-to-day operations of the breakfast club and/or after school club, ensuring all activities are delivered to the club’s high standards at all times. You will provide a safe and secure environment for the children in your care to explore, grow and have FUN!

The successful applicant should have:

  • excellent communication skills with young children
  • the ability to work under your own initiative as well as part of an established team
  • the ability to organise and teach children to play games

Visits to our school are warmly encouraged. If you would like to book a visit please contact operations@aldergrove.wokingham.sch.uk

Applicants must be 17 or over.   Applicants must be at least 17 years old. This is because, under the Ofsted‑regulated Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requirements, staff must be at least 17 to be counted in statutory staff‑to‑child ratios. This ensures we can meet our legal duties for safeguarding, supervision, and the quality of care provided.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service enhanced criminal records check.
