The Role

Watling Academy is seeking a committed, knowledgeable and forward‑thinking Head of Physics to join our Science department. Working with the Head of Science, you will play a central role in strengthening the quality, visibility and ambition of Physics at Watling Academy.

As Head of Physics, you will:

Lead the development of an exceptional Physics curriculum, ensuring it is coherent, challenging and inspiring from KS3 through to KS5.
Champion high‑quality teaching, modelling excellent practice and supporting colleagues to continually improve pedagogy and outcomes in Physics.
Drive engagement and curiosity, designing practical, hands‑on learning that brings abstract concepts to life and deepens scientific understanding.
Support student progress and aspiration, fostering resilience, critical thinking and a love of learning in all pupils.
Collaborate closely with the Head of Science and the wider Science team to ensure a cohesive, enriching and dynamic Science curriculum for every learner.

Watling Academy is an Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ secondary school situated on the western edge of Milton Keynes, encompassing the Whitehouse and Fairfields developments. Opening in September 2020, our school is a new and vibrant learning community for students aged 11-18. We are excited to have opened the Watling Academy Sixth Form to our first cohort of Year 12 students in September 2025, which will provide further educational opportunities.
