Internal Grade 9 - Leader of Support for Learning

To cover PPA for year 7 and below

37 hours per week (39 weeks) 

Salary Pay Range: £32,070.00 to £34,349.00 FTE

Starting salary: £27,447.81


As our school develops, we have an exciting opportunity within our LoSL team, to cover PPA for Year 7 and below. This will involve managing teams of Teaching Assistants and leading by example for those aspiring to support with teaching and learning. The role may be suitable for those wanting to gain experience in leading classes to support aspirations to become a teacher. 


  • Have you got an excellent understanding of learning and how to support pupils with Communication and Interaction (or ASC) needs to achieve their full potential?

  • Are you able to model exemplary practice - coaching staff to ensure that excellence for pupils is achieved? 

  • Can you support teachers to build enabling environments that inspire learning and enable access for pupils? 

  • Have you got excellent organisational and communication skills and a willingness to learn? 

  • Do you have experience supporting children and young people within a KS2 and KS3 environment? 


The Leader of Support for Learning will work across a group of classes to ensure that high quality support and access is in place for all pupils including being responsible for aspects of intervention work across associated classes and planning for and leading whole class sessions. 


You will develop expertise in an agreed area of personal and social development and will be responsible for delivering high quality, engaging experiences across the group of classes within this area - tracking progress using Earwig and being responsible for the progress that pupils make. 


Alongside your work in classrooms you will support the Teachers and the Pastoral Lead to identify and develop programmes of support for pupils who need interventions and you will monitor the work that is being completed ensuring that coaching and mentoring is provided across classes to embed the strategies used with pupils as their usual way of working. 


You will direct support staff to ensure that the needs of pupils across the group of classes are met and you will work collaboratively with teachers to create enabling environments and to ensure that all staff contribute to pupil progress records on Earwig. You will have identified areas of expertise which you use to support pupils, using a coaching model with support staff to ensure that they are able to develop their expertise. 


As a lifelong learner you will develop confidence in the broad range of curriculum strategies used by the school and will model these to staff identifying through personal development reviews areas for development and offering opportunities for additional support. 


Working in partnership is key and you will be confident in working collaboratively in multi disciplinary teams taking on board feedback and responding to ensure that the best outcomes for pupils are achieved. You will build positive relationships with parents and carers and will be able to communicate clearly and confidently with all stakeholders. 


You will uphold the values and ethos of the school in the work that you do with children and young people and will be an exemplary role model to our young people as well as your colleagues.


We will support you in your ongoing professional development to meet the needs of this role which will help the school community continually improve provision and outcomes for our children and young people.
