About this Role

Belong School Devon is a flourishing independent special school based in Exeter with a mission to support students and their families to reengage with learning. We work with complex and vulnerable students and our unshakable ambition for every one of them is that they learn, grow and thrive.

As a Learning Coach, you will work as part of a team to support our student and help deliver our curriculum through positive interventions, small group learning experiences and relational practice. We have a unique approach to the educational needs of every student that includes a high degree of flexibility and a wide range of opportunities for learning outside the classroom.

The successful applicant will be closely supporting and coaching students in a way that enables both personal and academic progress. You will see incredible growth and development in the students as we work together to prepare them for adulthood.

Each student at Belong School Devon has an EHCP and a bespoke curriculum. This role will put you on the front line as you strive to help our students recover from past experiences and grow the confidence and resilience that they need to succeed and become a thriving adult.

Working at Belong School Devon you will play a vital role in changing lives for the better.

The role includes the following duties:

  • Delivering one-to-one and small group sessions in a range of settings (school and LOTC).
  • Supporting students to learn effectively and make progress across the curriculum.
  • Working with teaching staff to track the growth and development of our students.
  • Preparing appropriate resources to deliver in sessions, tailored to the needs of the students.
  • Being the key contact for the student’s parent/carer.
  • Acting as an advocate for the student to ensure their voice is heard.
  • Providing regular feedback to inform the next steps of the student’s journey.
  • Working to the Belong Learning staff handbook, code of conduct, and safeguarding policy.
  • Attending and engaging in supervision sessions as appropriate and when required.
  • Engaging in continuing professional development as part of the staff team.

General duties and responsibilities:

  • Create a positive, aspirational, and safe ethos that is student focused.
  • Be an effective and collegiate member of the staff team.
  • Promote a strong safeguarding culture in the school environment and beyond.
  • Work closely with other staff to ensure continuity and consistency.
  • Ensure Belong Learning and Belong School Devon policies are always adhered to.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all students is paramount and all staff are expected to share and embrace this commitment. Any offer of employment is subject to two satisfactory professional references, medical clearance, an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services check (DBS), evidence of eligibility to work in the UK and evidence of qualifications. All the above checks must be completed before employment commences.
