About this Role

About Our School

Wainscott Primary School and Nursery is a warm, ambitious and forward-thinking school at the heart of its community in Rochester, Medway. With classes from Nursery through to Year 6, we provide a rich, inclusive education where every child has the opportunity to flourish.

Our vision is to develop learners who are tolerant, resilient, curious and creative — values that sit at the heart of everything we do, from curriculum design to the relationships we build with children, families and the wider community.

As part of The Primary First Trust – a growing network of ten primary schools across Bexley, Gravesham and Medway – our staff benefit from a collaborative professional community, shared expertise and genuine career development opportunities.

The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for an inspiring and experienced leader to play a pivotal role in the next chapter of our school's journey. Working closely with our Headteacher, Monique Clark, you will share accountability for the quality of education, the wellbeing of all pupils and staff, and the school's ongoing improvement — and you will act as Headteacher in their absence.

Across seven areas of leadership, you will:

Shape and deliver the school's strategic vision, embedding our values of Tolerance, Resilience, Curiosity and Creativity in all aspects of school life

Champion outstanding teaching and learning, leading on curriculum development and using monitoring and evaluation to drive improvement

Lead, coach and develop staff at all career stages, building a culture of ambition, collaboration and professional growth

Promote the welfare and wellbeing of every pupil, acting as or supporting the Designated Safeguarding Lead in line with KCSIE

Use pupil performance data with rigour and precision to evaluate impact and inform strategic decisions

Build strong partnerships with parents, carers, governors, the local authority and the wider trust network

Model the highest standards of professional conduct and a commitment to your own continued development

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who brings:

Proven primary school leadership experience and a sustained track record of raising pupil outcomes

A deep understanding of the Headteacher Standards and what exceptional educational leadership looks like in practice

The ability to inspire and motivate staff and children alike, with warmth, energy and high expectations

Strong knowledge of curriculum, assessment, SEND and inclusion — and how to translate this into excellent practice

The confidence to deputise for the Headteacher and make considered decisions under pressure

A values-driven approach and the commitment to hold or work towards the NPQH

A genuine belief that every child, regardless of background, can achieve their very best

What We Offer

A supportive, ambitious and collegiate leadership team led by an experienced Headteacher

A happy, well-behaved school community where staff feel genuinely valued

Strong trust-wide collaboration, professional networks and career development opportunities

A commitment to staff wellbeing and a culture where people thrive

A school where children are at the centre of every decision
