About the role

To be a member of a multi-disciplinary team, under the leadership and supervision of the teacher/senior staff: work with individuals/groups to support the learning and physical/general care of pupils; enable access to learning for pupils and assist the teacher in the support of pupils and the classroom.

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate TA/HLTA to join our Specialist Resource Provision (SRP) the Phoenix Centre, supporting pupils with special educational needs. You will work closely with teaching staff to deliver tailored support, promote independence, and help pupils access learning in a safe and inclusive environment. The role involves assisting with personalised learning activities, supporting communication and social development, and ensuring each child’s wellbeing and progress are at the heart of everything you do.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Covering a class in the teacher's absence
  • Supporting pupils’ learning, wellbeing and social development
  • Delivering  targeted interventions and monitoring progress
  • Encouraging positive behaviour, independence and inclusion
  • Assisting with classroom activities, resources and assessments
  • Liaising with staff, professionals and families to support pupil progress

We are looking for someone who:

  • has a compassionate and nurturing approach
  • is resilient, flexible, and proactive
  • has a strong commitment to supporting children with additional needs
  • has the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • has a positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • is adaptable and has a thirst for change.

About the school:

The Phoenix Centre for Autism is part of Cage Green Primary school and is a specialist resource provision for children with autistic spectrum condition. There are currently 17 children in the provision who work with two teachers and a team of TAs. We are looking for a TA/HLTA who will take a strong role in taking the children's learning forwards, celebrating their strengths and achievements and supporting them to understand and manage their needs. Strong behaviour management is essential as is a good sense of humour and the ability to work with flexibility to meet children's needs. The children in the Centre range across KS2 with the two classes grouped by stage rather than age.

"I love Cage Green and I know that Cage Green loves me," was what one of our children said during our very successful Ofsted inspection. If you are the kind of person who understands why what the child has said was important, you might be the person we are looking.

If you think that you might be the right person for this job, please phone the school on 01732 354325 for a chat with Felicity O'Brine, who can talk to you more about the role and the school. Visits to the school are VERY strongly encouraged.
