About this Role

Join a Team That is Committed to ‘Building Brighter Futures’ at Paxman Academy

Are you a proactive problem-solver with a passion for student wellbeing?

At Paxman Academy, we're dedicated to creating an ordered, stimulating learning environment where every student is valued, respected, and encouraged to achieve their best.

We are searching for an exceptional Pastoral Support Manager to join our team on a temporary basis for up to 1 year. This is a prominent role within the school, sitting at the heart of our commitment to delivering outstanding pastoral care.

Working alongside our Year Leaders and the Deputy Head (Pastoral), you will be a driving force in supporting student behaviour and wellbeing. The role is multi-faceted, requiring a “calm head” to filter information and tackle situations as they arise. You will be joining a team of highly skilled and committed professionals who are relentless in the pursuit of pastoral excellence.

  • Contract Type: Fixed Term (Maternity Cover)
  • Start Date: 1st September 2026 (contract ends 31st August 2027)
  • Working Hours: 37 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (term time plus non-pupil/INSET days)
  • Working Pattern: 8:00am – 4:00pm Mon to Thurs; 8:00am – 3:30pm Fri

Key Responsibilities

  • Systems Management: Manage the day-to-day provision of a robust and supportive pastoral system for all students.
  • Standards: Enforce school rules, maintain discipline, and promote attendance while providing a high level of care.
  • Strategy: Contribute to the school’s long-term strategy and help refine systems for behavior management as instructed by the Deputy Head Pastoral.
  • Support: Assist Year Leaders and Tutor teams in the welfare, care, and academic progress of students.

We are looking for you if you have:

  • A good standard of education (Ideally GCSE English/Maths Grade C/4 or above).
  • Previous experience in a school environment or a supervisory role with young people is an advantage.
  • A commitment to high achievement for both yourself and our students.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to act on your own initiative.

Please see the attached Job Description & Person Specification for further details.
