About the role:

As a SEND 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will be expected to provide one-to-one support to an individual pupil with an Educational Healthcare Plan (EHC) whom has specific needs. The post-holder will be fully informed about the needs they are supporting and what the targets set by external professionals are, and how to effectively support these needs. You will work under the direction of class teacher and the Head of Academy to support and deliver planned learning interventions.

Job Description:  

This Job Description describes in general terms the normal duties which the post holder will be expected to undertake. However, the job or duties described may vary or be amended from time to time without changing the level of responsibility associated with the post. The post-holder will be expected to carry out the following, please also refer to the attached recruitment pack:

Main responsibilities:

  • ·         Supporting an individual pupil with an EHC Plan
  • ·         Using positive communication to ensure firm, consistent boundaries are set
  • ·         Ensuring the pupils’ understanding of instructions and how to succeed in the task
  • ·         Redirecting the pupils back to the task when their attention wanders 
  • ·         Giving praise for perseverance 
  • ·         Acknowledging every aspect of good behaviour
  •            Supporting pupils in class
  • ·         Supporting small groups or individuals out of class
  •           The successful candidate must have strong interpersonal skills

In addition, you will also be expected to carry out the following:

  • Safeguarding
  • Teaching and learning
  • Working collaboratively
  • Behaviour and classroom management
  • Health and welfare of children
  • Break and Lunchtime Safeguarding duties
