Job Purpose
To provide high quality teaching and learning opportunities that enable students to achieve good progress and outcomes and to be successful learners.
To work closely with the existing Maths teacher to develop cohesive lesson plans
To provide pastoral care to students as required and to be aware of individual students’ mental health and wellbeing needs.
To communicate effectively with parents and other stakeholders in order to enhance students’ development and achievement.
To fulfil and meet the responsibilities and duties as set out in the Teachers’ Standards (2012).
To fulfil and meet the responsibilities set out for teachers in the current DfE ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ and current DfE ‘The Prevent duty’.
The ability to teach science in addition to maths is desirable.
Duties and Responsibilities
Curriculum Planning and Delivery:
Design and deliver differentiated Maths lessons that are accessible and engaging for pupils with a range of learning needs, ensuring adherence to the national curriculum where applicable.
To undertake the teaching of SEN pupils with Education Health and Care Plans, across the range of SEN needs and ages, individually, in small groups or through class support.
To provide a high quality of teaching and learning provision that is in line with regulatory standards (Independent School Standards) and the Odyssey House School Standards.
Set work for pupils absent from school.
Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
Conduct regular assessments to evaluate pupils’ progress in numeracy skills.
Keep detailed records of pupils’ achievements, providing regular feedback and reports to parents, carers, and the school leadership team.
Use data from assessments to adjust teaching methods and support interventions where needed.
To set and mark examinations, assessments and coursework as assigned by the Subject Leader or member of SLT.
Classroom Management and Environment:
Create a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, engagement, and positive behaviour.
To work in collaboration with Teaching Assistants assigned to any teaching group/pupil within the group.
To ensure that the teaching room, resources and equipment are maintained in good order, regarding Health & Safety and security of property.
To use ICT and other technologies and learning resources as learning tools to inspire and motivate learners.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with teaching assistants and other staff to provide a team-based approach to education.
Maintain open, constructive communication with parents, carers and external professionals (e.g. speech therapists, educational psychologists) to ensure a holistic approach to each pupil’s learning.
Participate in school meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities to stay informed of best practices in SEN teaching.
Under the guidance of the SENCO and Headteacher, liaise with parents and if required, other agencies, such as the GP, social workers, speech and language therapists and educational psychologists, etc.
Behaviour and Emotional Support:
Support pupils in developing social, emotional, and behavioural skills, helping them to manage anxiety, frustration, or other challenges in a positive manner.
Use de-escalation strategies when necessary and work to create a calm and structured environment that supports emotional regulation.
To take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons.
To promote good attendance and punctuality providing support/intervention for those who find it hard to maintain high standards.
Professional Development and School Contribution:
Engage in ongoing professional development, including training in SEN-specific methods, and contribute to the overall development of the school’s SEN provision.
Be involved in school-wide initiatives, events, and extracurricular activities that enhance the school experience for all pupils.
To ensure that all deadlines are met as published in advance and to attend meetings as part of the agreed meeting cycle.
To undertake any other duties as required by the Headteacher & SENCO.
