Job Title: Attendance and Pastoral Leader

The Role
We are seeking a dedicated, highly organised, and compassionate Attendance and Pastoral Leader to take a key role in promoting excellent attendance, assisting with Early Help support, and contributing to safeguarding as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL).
This is a pivotal position within the school, working closely with senior leaders, staff, families, and external agencies to remove barriers to learning and ensure all pupils are safe, supported, and able to succeed.
Key Responsibilities
Attendance
* Monitor, track, and analyse pupil attendance and punctuality
* Lead and implement whole-school strategies and policy to improve attendance
* Manage first-day response and follow up on absences promptly
* Identify and address persistent absence and vulnerable groups
* Work closely with families to overcome barriers to attendance
* Liaise with the Local Authority and Education Welfare services
* Provide regular attendance reports to senior leaders and governors
* Complete home visits
Pastoral Care & Pupil Support
* Provide high-quality pastoral and emotional support to pupils
* Identify vulnerable pupils and coordinate appropriate support
* Lead or deliver interventions for wellbeing, behaviour, and social development
* Support staff with behaviour strategies in line with school policy
* Promote a positive, inclusive, and nurturing school culture
Early Help & Family Support
* Support the Early Help process within the school
* Act as Lead Professional for identified families
* Support Team Around the Family (TAF) meetings
* Undertake home visits where appropriate and safe to do so
* Build strong, supportive relationships with parents and carers
* Signpost and refer families to appropriate external services
* Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date records
Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL
* Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL), supporting the DSL in the oversight and management of all safeguarding matters
* Respond promptly and appropriately to safeguarding concerns, taking immediate action where required
* Record, manage and review safeguarding concerns using the school’s safeguarding systems, escalating to the Lead DSL as appropriate
* Make referrals to Children’s Social Care and other agencies in line with statutory guidance
* Manage safeguarding casework relating to family circumstances, attendance, persistent absence and vulnerability
* Coordinate early help assessments and multi-agency support, working closely with social care,
health, police and other professionals
* Lead on safeguarding concerns linked to attendance issues, disengagement and escalating need
* Work closely with families to reduce risk, increase protective factors and promote positive outcomes
* Monitor patterns and trends of vulnerability to inform timely intervention
* Liaise effectively with pastoral teams and external agencies to ensure coordinated support
* Support staff with safeguarding concerns, procedures and decision-making
* Contribute to staff training and safeguarding updates by sharing key themes and learning (including neglect, attendance and
early help)
* Ensure safeguarding and child protection procedures are applied consistently and support a strong culture of vigilance across the
school
Multi-Agency Working
* Work collaboratively with a range of external professionals (e.g. social workers, family support workers, health professionals)
* Attend and contribute to multi-agency meetings and case conferences
* Ensure joined-up support for children and families
Person Specification
Essential:
* Experience working with children in a school or similar setting
* Lead in the coordination of pastoral support from external agencies
* Strong knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and early help processes
* Experience supporting attendance and working with families by developing positive working relationships and maintaining effective
communication.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with professionalism
* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail in maintaining accurate registers and logs.
* Commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and pupil wellbeing
Desirable:
* Experience as a Deputy DSL or safeguarding lead
* Training in safeguarding, early help, or mental health support
* Experience leading Early Help Assessments and TAF meetings
* Knowledge of systems such as My Concern and Bromcom or equivalent
* Experience of multi-agency working
* Ability to plan and deliver training and parent workshops to support school priorities.
* Experience and an understanding of Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA), along with effective strategies to support pupils in
overcoming barriers to attendance.
* Experience of preparing and presenting clear, informative reports to the Governing Body.
* Commitment to attending STOCMAC network meetings and relevant conferences, contributing to professional practice and sharing
learning with colleagues.
* Driving license and willingness to drive the school minibus.
