About this Role

Serenity School Coulsdon is seeking to appoint an ambitious, dynamic and values-driven Assistant Headteacher – Pastoral (Behaviour for Learning & Personal Development) to join our senior leadership team.

Serenity School Coulsdon is a specialist educational setting that provides a safe, nurturing and structured environment for pupils with a wide range of SEND. We are committed to delivering a holistic education that supports pupils’ academic achievement alongside their personal development, wellbeing and preparation for life beyond school.

This is an exciting leadership opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping and driving the school’s pastoral strategy. The successful candidate will lead on behaviour for learning, personal development, and key curriculum areas including SMSC, PSHE and CEIAG, ensuring that all pupils are supported to become confident, resilient and responsible individuals.


Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing strategic leadership of behaviour for learning and pastoral systems across the school
  • Leading and developing high-quality provision in SMSC, PSHE and CEIAG
  • Driving a positive behaviour culture that promotes engagement, inclusion and high expectations
  • Monitoring and improving behaviour, attendance and personal development outcomes using data-informed approaches
  • Leading and developing the pastoral team, ensuring consistency and high standards of practice
  • Contributing to safeguarding, student wellbeing and multi-agency working
  • Supporting whole-school improvement, self-evaluation and inspection readiness
  • Teaching across relevant subject areas and modelling high-quality classroom practice

Person Specification

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is an experienced and inspirational leader with a strong commitment to inclusion and SEND provision
  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and has relevant leadership or aspiring leadership experience
  • Has a strong understanding of behaviour for learning, pastoral systems and personal development
  • Demonstrates excellent communication, leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Is committed to safeguarding, equality and inclusive practice
  • Is resilient, reflective and able to lead with clarity, empathy and high expectations
