About this Role

We are looking to appoint an inspirational Head of Biology to join Arnold Hill Spencer Academy on a maternity cover basis. This is an excellent opportunity to lead a high‑performing, well‑resourced department within a school where academic ambition, curiosity, and a love of learning are actively encouraged and celebrated.

You will become part of a forward‑thinking, dynamic Science team, known for being warm, supportive, and committed to high expectations for both staff and students. As Head of Biology, you will play a key role in inspiring students across the academy to strive for personal and academic excellence, developing the skills, confidence, and resilience needed to become passionate lifelong learners who aim to exceed their potential.

The successful candidate will join our thriving Science Faculty, which places a strong emphasis on innovation and sharing outstanding practice. We are seeking a teacher with a genuine passion for Science and Biology, capable of engaging and motivating students of all abilities. You will be required to teach across KS3 to KS5.

Arnold Hill Spencer Academy is a truly special place to learn and work. In June 2025, Ofsted rated the academy ‘Good’ in all areas and ‘Outstanding’ for Post-16 provision. Our August GCSE results exceeded national averages for both attainment and progress, reflecting the dedication of our staff and the ambition of our students.

We are proud of our young people, whose behaviour, achievements, and character shine every day. Guided by our community ethos — “Be inspired and achieve together” — we provide daily opportunities for success, growth, and collaboration. Respect, responsibility, and independence are at the heart of our values, helping students to mature into confident, capable individuals. At Arnold Hill Spencer Academy, we believe in the potential of every student and nurture it within a caring, supportive environment where everyone can thrive.

Early application is strongly encouraged as we reserve the right to interview and close the advert ahead of the closing date.

Spencer Academies Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all our children and young people. Therefore, we expect everyone to share this commitment. All appointments are subject to satisfactory pre- employment checks, including a satisfactory Enhanced criminal records with Barred List Check through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and the completion of Level 2 Safeguarding training. It is an offence to apply for the role if an applicant is barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children (where the role involves this type of regulated activity).

The Trust and its member academies are committed to promoting equality and diversity in both employment and education provision. We aim to ensure that students, parents, governors, employees, contractors, partners, clients and other stakeholders within the Trust community are treated fairly, and with dignity and respect regardless of Protected Characteristics.
