About this Role

We are excited to be recruiting for a skilled and enthusiastic Design and Technology Technician to support the continued success and growth of our vibrant faculty.

This is a varied and hands-on role, primarily supporting teaching and learning across Product Design, Resistant Materials and Textiles. You will also collaborate closely with our Food Technician and Head of Art, playing an important part in preparing resources and supporting learning across the wider faculty.

Full training will be provided, so it is not essential to hold all relevant licences for workshop machinery at the outset. However, a genuine interest in design and technology is key, and experience or enthusiasm for Computer Aided Design and Manufacture (CAD/CAM) would be a significant advantage.

We are looking for someone who is reliable, well-organised and flexible, with a calm approach and a passion for supporting young people. You will enjoy working in a busy school environment, feel confident interacting with pupils, and bring practical experience of a range of manufacturing techniques. Experience using tools and machinery such as pillar drills and band saws is highly desirable.

Strong IT skills, including experience of ordering systems, are essential. Previous experience as a DT Technician in a school or relevant industry setting is also required.

Arnold Hill Spencer Academy is a truly special place to learn and work. In June 2025, Ofsted rated the academy ‘Good’ in all areas and ‘Outstanding’ for Post-16 provision. Our August GCSE results exceeded national averages for both attainment and progress, reflecting the dedication of our staff and the ambition of our students.

We are proud of our young people, whose behaviour, achievements, and character shine every day. Guided by our community ethos — “Be inspired and achieve together” — we provide daily opportunities for success, growth, and collaboration. Respect, responsibility, and independence are at the heart of our values, helping students to mature into confident, capable individuals. At Arnold Hill Spencer Academy, we believe in the potential of every student and nurture it within a caring, supportive environment where everyone can thrive.

Early application is strongly encouraged as we reserve the right to interview and close the advert ahead of the closing date.

Spencer Academies Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all our children and young people. Therefore, we expect everyone to share this commitment. All appointments are subject to satisfactory pre- employment checks, including a satisfactory Enhanced criminal records with Barred List Check through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and the completion of Level 2 Safeguarding training. It is an offence to apply for the role if an applicant is barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children (where the role involves this type of regulated activity).

The Trust and its member academies are committed to promoting equality and diversity in both employment and education provision. We aim to ensure that students, parents, governors, employees, contractors, partners, clients and other stakeholders within the Trust community are treated fairly, and with dignity and respect regardless of Protected Characteristics.
