Join Our Team as a Literacy Tutor

Location: Astrea Academy Dearne, Barnsley
Start Date: As soon as possible
Salary: £26,138 – £27,912 (Actual Salary) | SCP 15–19
Hours: 37 hours/week | Term Time Only (39 weeks/year)

Astrea Academy Dearne is seeking a highly effective Literacy Tutor to join our committed and ambitious team. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful impact by delivering high-quality, targeted tuition to individuals and small groups of scholars. You will play a key role in supporting identified students through structured interventions, helping to raise attainment and close gaps in literacy.

The ideal candidate will hold Grade 4/C or above in English and Maths, with QTS or HLTA status desirable. You will have significant experience working with primary-aged children and/or Key Stage 3 scholars, including those with additional needs. 


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Deliver high-quality, targeted literacy tuition to individuals and small groups of scholars.
  • Plan and implement structured intervention programmes to support identified students.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adapting strategies to meet individual learning needs.
  • Work closely with teaching staff to align interventions with curriculum goals.
  • Support scholars with additional needs, ensuring inclusive and accessible learning.
  • Maintain accurate records of sessions, progress, and outcomes.
  • Contribute to the wider academic and pastoral support within the academy.
  • Promote a positive learning environment that encourages confidence and engagement in literacy.
  • Uphold safeguarding procedures and contribute to the wellbeing of all scholars.
