About this Role

As Headteacher of Harthill Primary School, I am looking for a teacher who is deeply committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of our children. We want someone who brings energy, creativity, and high expectations into the classroom, ensuring that every pupil is inspired, challenged, and supported to achieve their very best.

The ideal candidate will be an excellent practitioner with a clear understanding of effective teaching and learning. You will plan and deliver engaging, well-structured lessons that meet the needs of all learners, using assessment thoughtfully to inform next steps and address any gaps. We value teachers who are reflective in their practice—those who are open to feedback, eager to develop professionally, and always striving to improve outcomes for pupils.

At Harthill Primary School, relationships are at the heart of everything we do. We are looking for someone who can build strong, positive connections with children, creating a classroom environment where pupils feel safe, respected, and motivated to learn. A calm, consistent approach to behaviour, alongside a genuine care for pupils’ wellbeing, is essential.

Collaboration is also key. We want a teacher who works effectively as part of a team, shares ideas, and contributes positively to our school community. Strong communication with parents and carers is vital, as we believe in working in partnership to support every child’s development.

Above all, I am seeking a teacher who shares our values and is passionate about education—someone who will go the extra mile to ensure that every child at Harthill Primary School leaves with confidence, resilience, and a love of learning.

Being a teacher at Harthill Primary School involves dedication, creativity, and a genuine passion for education. It is a role that not only shapes academic outcomes but also plays a lasting part in the development of confident, capable, and well-rounded individuals.

Harthill Primary School would like all candidates to answer specific questions for the personal statement section. For reference, here is a preview of the questions/headings:

  1. Can you describe how you create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment that supports the wellbeing and individual needs of all children?
  2. How do you plan and deliver a broad and engaging curriculum that prepares pupils for the transition to secondary school while maintaining high expectations for all learners?
  3. How do you use assessment to identify gaps in learning and adapt your teaching to meet the needs of all pupils, including those who require additional support or challenge?
  4. Describe your experience of teaching mixed-age classes or working across multiple year groups. If you haven't done this yet before, how would you approach planning and differentiation for a mixed age group?
  5. Describe your experiences of teaching and supporting pupils with SEND in a mainstream classroom, including specific strategies you have used to ensure they can access the curriculum.
  6. What do you see as the particular challenges and opportunities of working in a small primary school, and how would you contribute to our school community?
