This role involves planning, resourcing and delivering
highly effective Science and Maths lessons that enable students to make strong
progress and achieve excellent outcomes. The postholder will contribute to a
positive, aspirational learning culture by delivering engaging lessons,
maintaining high expectations and supporting wider school and Trust priorities.
The successful candidate will participate fully in tutor
responsibilities, uphold consistent routines, collaborate with colleagues to
strengthen curriculum delivery, and maintain the highest standards of
professionalism, integrity and safeguarding at all times.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
• Plan, prepare and deliver effective Science and Maths lessons that align with
Trust and school schemes of work.
• Motivate and inspire students so they enjoy learning, develop independence
and aspire to achieve their best.
• Uphold all classroom, assessment and feedback routines in every lesson.
• Direct and supervise support staff assigned to lessons to support effective
resource use.
• Prepare students for internal and external assessments and examinations.
• Enrich the curriculum through trips, visits and wider learning experiences
where appropriate.
Assessment
• Use detailed understanding of students’ starting points, barriers to learning
and individual needs to support and challenge effectively.
• Support students to set and use realistically aspirational targets throughout
the course.
• Use regular formative assessment to monitor progress and implement
interventions where required.
• Implement Trust frameworks for learning, teaching, homework, assessment and
reporting.
• Provide verbal and written feedback, reports and references as required.
• Maintain productive communication with students and parents about progress,
next steps, sanctions and rewards.
Behaviour Management and Student Wellbeing
• Implement Trust and school policies including Behaviour, Safeguarding, GDPR,
Anti-Bullying, Health & Safety and Acceptable Use.
• Create a positive, nurturing learning environment where students feel safe,
show curiosity and are enthusiastic about learning.
• Take responsibility for behaviour and attendance within lessons, applying
sanctions and rewards and recording them as required.
• Undertake allocated duties to promote the safety and wellbeing of students and
colleagues.
• Report and record all safeguarding and health and safety concerns promptly in
line with policy.
Pastoral and Inclusion
• Act as a form tutor and plan and deliver highly effective tutor and personal
development sessions.
• Take responsibility for behaviour and attendance within the tutor group,
applying sanctions and rewards and recording them as required.
• Review tutee reports or Individual Learning Plans at least half-termly and
record outcomes and agreed actions.
• Provide information and reports to support SEND discussions, external agency
involvement and alternative provision decisions.
Trust Culture

procedures consistently.
• Maintain the highest expectations of all students within a “no excuses”
culture.
• Help build a collaborative, consistent school community characterised by
respectful relationships.
• Support extra-curricular and whole-school events as required.

The Ideal Candidate
Professional Expertise
• A good first degree in a relevant discipline.
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and suitable teaching qualification.
• Experience of teaching Science and Maths at appropriate levels.
• Ability to devise and implement a range of teaching strategies to promote
learning and enjoyment of the subjects.
• Highly skilled classroom practitioner able to deliver a variety of teaching
approaches.
• Strong understanding of the relevant curriculum, specifications and
assessment requirements.
Skills and Abilities
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to carry out administrative
tasks accurately and efficiently to meet deadlines.
• Effective behaviour management skills and the ability to motivate students.
• Ability to establish productive working relationships with students and
colleagues and promote a positive classroom environment.
• Good IT skills and ability to use ICT effectively in the classroom.
Approach and Mindset
• Commitment to overcoming barriers to learning and maintaining inclusive
practice.
