About this Role

The Careers Advisor will provide high-quality, impartial careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) to learners aged 16-25 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Working closely with learners, families, tutors, job coaches, employers and external agencies, the postholder will support learners to develop ambitious but realistic aspirations and successfully transition into employment, supported internships, apprenticeships, further learning and adult life.

The Careers Advisor will play a key role in embedding Preparation for Adulthood outcomes across the college and supporting the delivery of an outstanding careers programme aligned to the Gatsby Benchmarks and the values of Lighthouse Futures Trust

Principal Responsibilities

Provide impartial and confidential careers information, advice and guidance to learners through individual and group sessions.

Support learners to identify their strengths, interests, aspirations and career goals through person-centred approaches.

Produce and maintain individual action plans and progression plans.

Support learners to explore a range of progression routes including employment, supported internships, apprenticeships, traineeships, further education and higher education opportunities.

Work closely with tutors and leads to identify learners requiring additional careers guidance and transition support.

Support learners to develop employability skills, confidence and independence.

Contribute to annual reviews and transition planning for learners with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

Work collaboratively with parents, carers and external professionals to support successful learner outcomes.

Promote Preparation for Adulthood outcomes across all curriculum pathways.

Support learners to understand how education, independent living, community participation and employment contribute to their future aspirations.

Ensure career planning forms an integral part of learners' individual programmes and transition journeys.

Encourage ambitious aspirations whilst ensuring pathways remain learner-centred and realistic.

Coordinate and contribute to the college's careers programme.

Support the achievement and ongoing development of the Gatsby Benchmarks.

Develop and maintain high-quality careers resources and labour market information.
