About this Role

Job Title: Assistant Head Teacher - Cultural Lead for Safeguarding and Attendance

Location: Esteem North Academy 

Grade/Scale: L4 to L8

Contract: 32.5 hours per week 

We are looking to recruit an experienced and successful Senior Leader to join our academy to lead on safeguarding and attendance across all sites. We are a multi sited AP academy and wish to appoint an additional senior leader to be the Designated Safeguarding Lead who can drive robust recording systems and promote our positive safeguarding culture. Due to the nature of our academy, our safeguarding work is significant and therefore the Assistant Headteacher will lead the pastoral team of safeguarding and attendance officers of which there will be 4. Pupils typically come to our academy with historically low attendance and we require an innovative leader to strategically plan to address this along with all aspects of mandatory attendance procedures following DfE policy. There is currently a DSL in post and this role is available due to a restructure and expansion of the senior leadership team to increase capacity. There will therefore be a substantial shadowing and handover period available.

Applicants should have good knowledge and experience of working to KCSIE and of driving whole school safeguarding and attendance culture. An affinity for pupils with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties is an essential quality for this challenging but rewarding opportunity. Applicants should be resilient, have high expectations, and a sense of humour. You must be able to build positive relationships with our pupils and think outside of the box. A growth mindset and positive ethos are essential characteristics that we are looking for.

An allocated base will be named for payment of mileage and any travel calculations will be made depending on travel either from home or your base. Please be aware of all of the academy sites as there will be travel between all sites and other destinations as part of this role in our academy. We plan to open a fourth site in 2026. Candidates must have access to a car and business use included. You may be expected to transport pupils in your own car.
