About this Role

Inspire curiosity. Ignite discovery. Shape confident young scientists. Lead a thriving department in a bold and ambitious all-through academy.

King's Academy Binfield is seeking to appoint a passionate, dynamic and innovative Director of Science to join our ambitious and growing academy community.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a thriving Science department within a forward-thinking all-through school, where curiosity, enquiry and high-quality learning are at the heart of what we do. As Director of Science, you will provide strategic leadership for the subject area, driving excellence in teaching, learning and curriculum design while inspiring both students and staff to achieve their very best.

You will lead a committed and talented team in delivering an engaging, knowledge-rich curriculum that inspires students to explore the world around them and develop as confident, analytical and independent thinkers. You will play a key role in ensuring exceptional outcomes for students and in shaping the future direction of Science across the academy.

At King's Academy Binfield, Science is a central pillar of our curriculum and our wider vision of providing opportunity and success on a global stage. We believe that scientific understanding empowers students to question, investigate and make informed decisions about the world they live in. Our well-resourced laboratories and carefully planned curriculum support students in developing both academic excellence and a lifelong interest in science.

Our Science department is characterised by:

  • ·         A strong commitment to subject-specific professional development
  • ·         A collaborative and supportive team culture, where ideas and expertise are shared
  • ·         A reflective approach to teaching and learning, with a focus on continual improvement
  • ·         A clear understanding of the importance of ambitious curriculum design and high-quality delivery
  • ·         A genuine commitment to staff wellbeing and professional trust
  • ·         High aspirations for student achievement and a commitment to excellence at all key stages

As part of our all-through academy, you will benefit from working within a unique educational environment spanning Nursery to Post-16, offering opportunities to understand and shape the full student journey. Our growing Sixth Form and expanding provision create exciting possibilities for curriculum development, leadership growth and innovation.

We are seeking an exceptional classroom practitioner and subject leader who can inspire and motivate both students and colleagues. The successful candidate will:

  • ·         Have a passion for Science and a commitment to securing the highest standards of teaching, learning and achievement.
  • ·         Provide strategic leadership for the Science department, establishing a clear vision for excellence and continuous improvement.
  • ·         Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of an ambitious and knowledge-rich Science curriculum.
  • ·         Demonstrate the ability to engage, challenge and support all learners, ensuring every student achieves their full potential.
  • ·         Use assessment and performance data effectively to drive improvement and raise standards across all key stages.
  • ·         Lead, support and develop colleagues through coaching, collaboration and professional development.
  • ·         Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning within the department, ensuring consistently high standards.
  • ·         Promote enrichment opportunities that enhance students' enjoyment of and engagement with Science.
  • ·         Contribute actively to the wider leadership and strategic development of the academy.
  • ·         Be reflective, ambitious and committed to their own professional growth and the success of their team.

We are particularly keen to hear from candidates who embody our core values of Honesty, Faith and Courage — approaching their work with integrity, optimism and a determination to make a meaningful difference.
