Teacher of Music
Full-time (part-time
will be considered upon request)
Required from 1st September 2026 or as soon
as possible thereafter
We are seeking
to appoint an enthusiastic and talented Teacher of Music, with the exciting
opportunity to develop our music offer at Great Western Academy. As part of the
Performing Arts team, there may be the need for some teaching of drama, however
the majority of teaching is likely to be music.
Days and hours
can be negotiated for the successful candidate. Please indicate your preferred
working pattern within your application.
Great Western Academy opened in brand new,
state-of-the-art facilities in North Swindon in September 2018. The Academy is
heavily oversubscribed in all years and has a thriving sixth form to match. Our GCSE results have shown that the
progress made by the large majority of students has been excellent,
particularly in English and Maths. Benchmark results are well above national
averages. This reflects progress by students of all abilities, with those with
EHCPs particularly successful, several of them progressing to our Sixth Form.
The results of our A-level cohorts have also been excellent and enabled 98% of
university applicants to take up their offers, including Oxford and Cambridge;
students have also secured prestigious apprenticeships with companies such as
with Airbus and Rolls Royce. We believe firmly that strong outcomes follow from
high expectations, high quality teaching, and strong support in terms of
behaviour structures and targeted academic and pastoral interventions.
Our inclusive Music curriculum provides students with a grounding in
the basics of Music building on prior knowledge and an appreciation of
different styles, genres and cultures in order for them to develop as creative
and well-rounded musicians. We offer a range of enrichment opportunities
including group clarinet, choir and orchestra. The Performing
Arts faculty provides a range of performance opportunities for students
including an annual Musical production, Christmas concert, Christmas Carol
service and House Performing Arts competition. The Music department also run
workshop and trip opportunities such as a visit to see Birmingham Symphony
Orchestra, which is one of the highlights in our school calendar.
We require a music teacher from September to teach key
stage 3 and 4, with the potential to develop the role into key stage 5. We
welcome applications from anyone who can bring the passion and enthusiasm to
further enhance the learning opportunities for our students here at Great
Western Academy.
Additional
benefits of working at GWA include:
• Flexible working opportunities
• Excellent CPD opportunities
• State of the art facilities
• Leading edge ICT, including a laptop provided for all staff
• Free Health and Wellbeing Support Service
• Cycle to work scheme through Cyclescheme

Our priority is very much to recruit the best
classroom practitioners who can ensure our students arrive at the Academy
excited about the day ahead and leave each day talking about the excellent
learning they have experienced.
Great Western Academy aims to radically improve the
life chances of every student who attends. Our modern building and
state-of-the-art facilities help us to achieve this, but it is the fantastic
team of staff who turn our vision into reality. If you have the proven ability
to inspire students in the classroom and beyond then this provides you with an
exciting opportunity to further shape your practice and develop your career.
