The Role

We are seeking a highly organised, professional and proactive Operations Assistant to provide comprehensive administrative and secretarial support to the Operations Manager and support the Principal and Senior Leadership Team at Astrea Academy Sheffield.

This is a pivotal role within the Operations Team, requiring absolute discretion, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced school environment. You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth day‑to‑day running of the academy while supporting strategic leadership and operational effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

As Operations Assistant, you will:

  • Lead and coordinate the recruitment and onboarding process for new staff, ensuring full compliance with safer recruitment and safeguarding requirements.
  • Support HR administration activities and clerk suspension meetings as required.
  • Provide advice and guidance to staff, pupils, parents and others as appropriate.
  • Provide confidential and high‑level secretarial and administrative support to the Principal.
  • Manage and coordinate the Principal’s electronic diary, correspondence, and inbox, acting autonomously where appropriate.
  • Build strong working relationships across the school and wider Trust, contributing to a collaborative and supportive culture.
  • Support the promotion of positive relationships with parents and carers and help resolve issues efficiently.
  • Carry out any additional duties commensurate with the grade and responsibilities of the role.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a confident, resilient and solution‑focused individual who thrives in a busy environment and has a genuine passion for education.

You will bring:

  • Proven experience in an administrative or executive support role.
  • Excellent IT skills and the ability to learn and adapt to new systems.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and multitask effectively.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to work with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Experience working within an educational setting is desirable but not essential.
