Assistant SENDCo

Full Time – Term Time Only
Start Date: As soon as possible
Location: Astrea Academy Sheffield

Are you passionate about inclusion and determined to ensure every young person has the support they need to succeed? Do you have the drive, empathy and organisation to make a real difference for students with additional needs?

We are looking for an exceptional Assistant SENDCo to join our team, someone who is committed to championing high-quality provision and ensuring all students can thrive, regardless of their starting point.

About You

You are a compassionate and highly organised individual who believes every student deserves the opportunity to succeed. You understand the importance of tailored support and are motivated by helping young people overcome barriers to learning.

You build positive relationships with ease, whether that’s with students, families, or colleagues and you communicate clearly, sensitively, and professionally. You’re proactive, detail-oriented, and take pride in ensuring support plans are both meaningful and impactful.

About the role

As Assistant SENDCo, you will support the leadership and coordination of SEND provision across the academy. You’ll help ensure that students with additional needs receive effective, targeted support and that staff are equipped to meet those needs in the classroom.

Working closely with the SENDCo and wider pastoral and teaching teams, you’ll play a key role in promoting inclusive practice and ensuring every student feels supported, valued, and able to achieve their potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the coordination and delivery of SEND provision across the academy
  • Assist in managing and reviewing Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and support plans
  • Work with staff to ensure high-quality teaching and support for students with SEND
  • Build strong relationships with students, parents, and external agencies
  • Monitor student progress and contribute to intervention planning
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with SEND processes
  • Promote an inclusive culture where all students can succeed

What We Offer

  • A supportive and collaborative working environment
  • Opportunities for professional development and career progression
  • The chance to make a genuine, lasting difference to students’ lives
  • A role with purpose, impact, and variety

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A proactive and solution-focused mindset
  • A commitment to inclusion and safeguarding
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Why Join Us?

At Astrea Academy Trust, we are committed to inclusion, high expectations, and ensuring every child can succeed. You’ll join a team that is passionate, supportive, and dedicated to making a difference every day.
