Inspire Excellence. Lead with Purpose. Make a Difference.

Heworth Grange School is seeking an ambitious, passionate and highly skilled 2nd in Maths to join our forward-thinking and supportive department. This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding practitioner ready to take the next step in leadership and play a key role in shaping the future of Maths education within a transforming school.

As part of Consilium Academies, a values-driven Multi-Academy Trust, we are committed to Excellence, Equity and Integrity, ensuring every student and every member of staff can thrive and fulfil their potential.

About Heworth Grange School

Heworth Grange is a large, inclusive secondary school with excellent facilities and a warm, community-focused ethos. While academic success matters deeply to us, we pride ourselves on developing the whole child — academically, socially and emotionally.

We are on an exciting improvement journey, supported through the DfE RISE programme, with recent Ofsted feedback recognising the significant positive changes already embedded. Our Maths department plays a central role in this journey, and we are looking for someone who shares our ambition and moral purpose.

The Role

As 2nd in Maths, you will work closely with the Head of Faculty to:

  • Support the strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the Maths department
  • Drive high standards of teaching, learning, assessment and pupil achievement
  • Lead, support and develop colleagues through coaching, mentoring and shared practice
  • Monitor pupil progress, using data effectively to inform intervention and improvement
  • Contribute to curriculum design, assessment accuracy and quality assurance
  • Inspire students through engaging learning experiences and high expectations
  • Deputise for the Head of Faculty when required

This role is ideal for an experienced teacher with strong subject knowledge and a clear desire to make a lasting impact beyond their own classroom.

What We Are Looking For

We are seeking a candidate who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status and a relevant degree
  • Has experience teaching Maths across KS3 and KS4
  • Demonstrates excellent subject knowledge and classroom practice
  • Can motivate, inspire and challenge students of all abilities
  • Has the ability to support, develop and influence colleagues
  • Shares our belief that every child can succeed – no excuses
  • Thrives in a collaborative, “no islands” culture

Leadership experience is welcome but not essential — we are equally keen to support the right candidate who is ready to take their first step into middle leadership.

Why Join Us?

  • A strong commitment to professional development through Consilium’s Centre for Professional Learning
  • Access to trust-wide collaboration, coaching and leadership pathways
  • A supportive, collegiate staff culture where people genuinely care about one another
  • The opportunity to make a real difference in a school and community on the rise
  • A Trust committed to staff wellbeing, equality, diversity and inclusion
