About the Role

Penketh High School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Teacher of Social Sciences to join our team from September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to deliver high-quality teaching in Social Sciences, including Personal Development and Religious Education, across all key stages. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring students achieve excellent outcomes, particularly at Key Stage 4, and will contribute to the development of an engaging and ambitious curriculum.

This role is suitable for Early Career Teachers (ECTs) as well as experienced educators. You will work collaboratively with colleagues to create cohesive teaching programmes that extend beyond the classroom, fostering both academic and personal growth in our students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality teaching in Social Sciences, including Personal Development and Religious Education, across all key stages.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of Psychology and/or Sociology to support student success at Key Stage 4.
  • Contribute to the development of an engaging and ambitious curriculum.
  • Use effective teaching and assessment strategies to support student progress.
  • Collaborate with department colleagues to ensure a cohesive approach to teaching and learning.
  • Plan and deliver lessons that challenge and inspire students, catering to a range of abilities and learning needs.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues to support a holistic approach to education.

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a good honours degree.
  • Successful and relevant teaching experience, ideally in an 11-16 high school setting.
  • Ability to teach at both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
  • Strong commitment to self-evaluation and the use of data to inform planning.
  • High level of ICT literacy and confidence in utilising technology to enhance learning.
  • A genuine interest in young people and a commitment to their academic and personal development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Total commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
